Dr. Cynthia Bernal, MD

I went for a scheduled hysteroscopy recently. The PA was confused about why I was there. When that was straightened out, I was moved to another room and was asked to sign a blank consent form (I insisted that it be completed first). I was never given any results from my tests prior to appt and there was no follow up regarding the UTI that I had. The Dr came in the room, asked how I was doing, and I when I said "stressed out" she didn't acknowledge that but asked me to scoot my butt down and spread my legs. She performed the hysteroscopy and when removed the speculum too fast causing it to spring back and hit me in the genitals. I won't be returning.

Bernal did not meet my needs. I initially went into this visit to seek guidance on the next steps for birth control. She immediately discussed my weight and suggested that I take more action with my health regarding losing weight, eating a low-carb diet, etc. Considering, I did not go to this appointment to discuss my weight but to seek methods of contraception it felt very unsettling to hear her suggestions. During my appointment, I felt very uncomfortable. Bernal's bedside manners and empathy were lacking and I will not be returning to her office.

Bernal did not understand my needs, I brought up several concerns and she completely ignored me and said 'oh we'll discuss at our next prenatal appointment' ... which she scheduled in 2 months

Doctor claimed on first visit that in addition to gynecology she also practices obesity medicine. On a particular type of medication she told me point blank that she expected me to not eat full meals. That a handful of grapes, small portion of salmon and a couple carrot sticks should be all I need for the limited time I am on it, not enough calories to even function correctly. This is actually against the advice of my pcp, the medications directions/guidance and could cause patients that have a poor relationship with their body and food to develop an eating disorder. I don’t care if she disclosed it’s not sustainable those kinds of comments and guidance have no place in a responsible medical practice. Use your better judgement, my experience clearly isn’t everyone’s. I just feel that overall she lacked basic empathy, logic and overstepped her role in my health care plan. I have cancelled all future appointments and have no intention of returning.

I have been seeing Dr. Cynthia Bernal since August/September 2021, the halfway mark of my pregnancy, and she has been so informative, a little more assertive than Drs in my past, but that’s what I like the most about her. She’s honest, very blunt and respectful of my decisions. This will be my 5th c-section and I am so happy to have her to perform my surgery. I can’t wait! Oh and Jodie at the front desk.. she’s SUPER sweet.. the rest of the staff is as well.. wish I knew everyone’s name!!!

My visit to Dr. Bernal was for a well woman annual checkup. I am very particular with all my doctors, and after reading the very positive reviews about this doctor, I decided to get an appointment with her. To begin, the doctor enter the room, did not introduce herself and started the examination. The breast exam was a touch of to one side of my left breast, and that was it. It took no more and half a minute. The vaginal exam was as quick, no pelvic exam, just Pap smear, and I was done. I can't say that she was rude or unprofessional, but she was not personable either. I like my doctors to have a more friendly and inviting bedside manners. Not to introduce herself when entering the room, was the first sign that I notice as a fault. For obvious reasons, this was my first and last visit to this doctor.

My experience with Dr Bernal is worse. She has no patience with her patients. She never bothered to ask if I have any questions. I feel like I am being rushed and kicked out at each appointment.

She is wonderful. I highly recommend her.

Jodi at front desk was pleasant and efficient. Anna, who escorted me to the room very nice, helpful. Dr Bernal asked questions, performed the exam and ordered the appropriate tests. No wait and not overbooked as so many doctors are now.

I loved my visit with Dr. Bernal! She was so patient and answered every question i had. I am expecting for the first time and have been a bit nervous, especially with everything happening with covid but she was so reassuring and i felt so much better leaving my appointment.The office is beautiful,clean, and her staff was also very helpful and patient with me. Im very thankful to have found her.

If you're a first time mom expecting personal service, this is not the place. They had me sign piles of hospital paperwork before even making sure I was in fact pregnant. Office staff was rude about signing such paperwork, it was like the most important part of my visit was signing my rights away to the hospital they work with. They gave me a bag with a bunch of advertisement, more paperwork to fill, and no information at all on being a new mom (besides products to buy). Thanks Google for not leaving me hanging! They also offered no help on where to go get labs and ultrasound for a fair price, they just recommend the hospital network which will cost an arm and a leg even with insurance. Nobody tested me in office to confirm my positive home test. I felt like just a dollar sign walking into that door. I hope to find a more caring doctor and team to take care of my pregnancy.

Where did dr bernal go to? I liked her a lot and is saddened she's not in patchogue any longer.

What an amazing doctor, She takes care of my mother, myself and also my 17 yo daughter. Took me forever to find someone who my daughter would feel comfortable to see and now she refuses to see anyone else. Dr. Bernal is so compationate and patient, we love her ????

Extremely professional, very friendly. Had Tubal ligation with her, everything came out excellent. Thank you ??.

Doctor Cynthia Bernal is exceptional! The perfect combination of what you need in a doctor when you are delivering your baby. She feels very familiar, easy to communicate with and was able to create a link with me in a very short time. She was very patient and motivational to help me keep going and pushing and when i wasn’t able to she came up with other methods to make it easier(we literally played tugging game in the delivery room). My experience couldnt have been any better.

caring and amazing doctor, the best surgoen in LI, she was a second opinion for my large uterus causing a lot of pain, she did it with a robot and everything went fantastic I could not be more grateful. I lost my insurance, but she still saw me in her office without charge to make sure I healed well, she went above and beyond, I think she is amazing!

Dr.Bernal was one of the most efficient Doctor’s I have ever dealt with. She ensured I was aware of everything that I should prepare for with my first child on the way. Truly made me feel comfortable and slightly less stressed about being a first time mom. Cannot thank her enough. Truly recommend a one of a kind doctor.

I Just met Dr.Bernal the other day she was very sweet and through she was very knowledgeable and professional I was very happy with her she was very gentle I would definitely recommend her I am looking forward to seeing her again. She was fantastic.

What a caring and sweet doctor, always makes time for me and I love that each appointment I am see within 20 min at most and not the usual 2-3 hours at different offices. She went out of her way to personally talk to my insurance to make sure they would cover my needed surgery. She is well known as a surgeon and I am so happy to have ended up in her hands.
