Very poor technique, ended up in ER
My husband has seen many urologists over the years as follow up for a bout of cancer. He gets a cystoscopy every 6-12 months. We moved to Ames and he saw Dr. Dyche for the routine procedure. This was the only urologist who didn’t use lubrication or lidocaine, so the scope was extremely painful. Dr. Dyche was so rough that my husband ended up in the ER that night passing huge blood clots. Dr. Dyche also recommended a follow up with biopsy (we did that through a different urologist!) for a spot he saw - that turned out to be blood vessel damage from his scope technique! Do not recommend!

My experience was positive. I had BPH and he first treated with medication and then followed up with Turp surgery. Dr. Dyche tells it like it is and is an excellent surgeon.

I was seen by Dr. Dyche in 2013. I went to the ER with kidney stones and was told I'd be getting a ureteroscopy done later that morning. Dr. Dyche was apparently very busy and continued to delay the procedure, eventually trying to push it to the next morning. We insisted he do it that night. He did the procedure at 6:30pm. Afterwards, he told me there was no kidney stone and that he checked both kidneys! Discharged me without a stent. This resulted in a blood clot that almost killed me.

Really knowledgeable, explains thoroughly, invites and answers questions. Down to business manner might be a little off-putting to some, but is not impersonal at all, and I appreciate his style actually. Clearly interested in my welfare and takes the time to talk through options, and honest about the pluses and minuses of each alternative procedure, risks, etc. Highly competent, have already recommended to a colleague.

Terrible bedside manners. Did not listen to any of my symptoms or concerns. Sent me to the ER during office hours because he just didn't want to deal with me. Made a poor attempt at trying to figure out a diagnosis and then told me everything was normal, despite an MRI showing otherwise and my continuing symptoms. Would never recommend anyone to see him.

Did not listen to a thing I said and missed a kidney stone, the most basic of all urological diagnoses. Was presumptive, dismissive, and derisive. The result of my visit with him has been months of unnecessary pain, and if my kidney wasn't permanently damaged before, it certainly is now.

After waiting two weeks to be seen, getting all checked in, the Dr rudely refused to see me because I had alternative healthcare. He was very rude and I would not advise this location.
