If I could give him zero stars I would.
After emergency surgery my daughter went into severe septic shock at SJRMC and he kept telling her she was 18 and would be fine (she was 2 weeks in his care). We had to transfer to Albuquerque where they immediately began life saving treatment.

Doctor Kalcich removed my gallbladder and did bre.
Knowledge. Explanation of procedures. He cares about his patients. If you aren’t going to follow instructions he gives then don’t waste his time or your money.I really like his openness.

Traumatic experience
Emergency surgery. Afterward he spoke to my husband who was negatively affected by his bedside manner. I am for the first time in my life receiving mental healthcare to overcome the trauma of my own interactions with him in the hospital. Follow-up appointment at his office was just as bad. I would attribute my opinion as a reaction to medicine received during surgery (conscious sedation), but my husband didn’t have any medicine and has a strong opinion about Dr. Kalcich’s care as well. While I may be physically improved, my mental trauma is now having a negative affect on that as well.

port inserted for chemo
Dr. Kalcich placed a chemo port 3 plus years ago. He had good attitude, and did explain the procedure well. It was out patient surgery, and he did see me before I was released. The oncologist staff said the port was placed well, and there has not been any problem with it. I am happy to report that I have had a full remission, and am now ready to have the port out.

My mother had surgery for cancer removal. It seems his surgical skills are fine, but his bedside manner leaves much to be desired. He was not communicative after the surgery when I asked the questions my mother had wanted me to ask. He was short and made it clear he did not want to answer my questions or spend any time with me; he seemed resentful that I would want to ask him anything.

Dr Kalcich took great care when he took my son's gallbladder out. His staff was very professional and easy to approach. Dr Kalcich was caring and did an excellent job. My son went home the same day and healed fast. Dr Kalcich is easy to talk to, explains everything very well, and is a very caring and experienced surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone needing surgery.
