An amazing surgeon at the top if his game.
Dr. Swistel performed a septal myectomy along with a mitral valve repair after I was diagnosed with HCM. I went from getting breathless climbing my stairs to hiking 8 miles with no problem. I was back to work 2 weeks after surgery and now 4 months later feel 20 years younger! I was lucky to get him. The whole HCM team @ NYU and nurses and operating Dr.'s are 2nd to none!

Excellent Cardiac Surgeon
Dr. Swistel performed a septal myectomy procedure for my obstructive HCM last year. I had lost much of my energy and stamina prior to the surgery. After the surgery I am back to 90-95% of energy and stamina at age 67. He and his NYU team were professional and caring. I am so very grateful to them for restoring my health.

Coronary Bypass Surgery
On April 15 1998 Dr Swistel performed a triple CABG on me at St Lukes Hospital in NYC. I was 55 years old and suffering from a severely blocked lower anterior descending vessel. His skill and expertise saved my life. I was home in 3 days, playing hardball squash in a month. I have waited until today, the 25th anniversary of the operation to thank him for giving me back my health. Thank you Dr Swistel. Jerry Manna

I highly recommend Dr Swistel
Dr Swistel performed a Ventricular septal myectomy in March 2018. I was 71 at the time Prior to the surgery I had no energy and could barely walk 100 yards without stopping at least once. After the procedure I was almost back to normal, and I was able to get my life back. I am 76 now and go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week for 25 minute workouts and regularly ride my bicycle about 20 miles. He has an excellent bedside manner and you can tell that Dr Swistel really cares about his patients.

World class expertise and track record
Dr. Swistel was our surgeon for my wife's septal myectomy. He exudes expertise, and his track record speaks for itself. Meeting with Dr. Swistel and his colleague Dr. Massera made us confident in our decision to proceed with the surgery, and thanks to their top-notch work, the procedure was a success that we are extremely grateful for.

I rarely write publicly on any topic, but without a doubt, Dr. Daniel G. Swistel saved and prolonged my life. At age 28, I had an advanced case of obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), with an uncommon form of mid-ventricle obstruction and abnormal papillary muscle attachments, as well as mitral valve systolic anterior motion. I consulted with myectomy cardiothoracic surgeons across the United States. Various myectomy surgeons were unsure if they could help as my case was not standard septal thickness. I reached out to Dr. Swistel. Within a month, my "terrible, stratospheric obstruction in the heart," was removed, and while I still have HCM with abnormal myofiber disarray, my quality of life has significantly improved at 29. I will forever be grateful and highly recommend him for his professionalism, thoroughness and expertise.

Dr. Swistel performed a septal myectomy procedure for my non-obstructive HCM. All the other doctors and cardiologists warned me against this surgery because they wanted me to try their trial medications. However, Dr. Swistel was always honest and on my side. He had a much deeper understanding of my complex disease than anyone else. He explained the whole procedure and why he believes it would be a good solution. After him and I decided to move forward with this operation we set dates with no time to waste. It's been a month since the surgery and I am feeling much better. I am now able to live a normal and stable life again thanks to Dr. Swistel. Also, his entire team at NYU has been very helpful since even before the surgery.

Dr. Swistel saved my husband's life, performing a triple bypass the day after we met him. He is spectacular - knowledgeable, friendly, caring, and gifted. His staff is also exceptional. Cannot recommend him highly enough, although it would be better not to need his services!
