Rare blend of epertise and humor
Dr. Chan offers a rare blend of medical expertise, appropriate humor, and is quite easy to work with as a patient. His medical explanations are clear, thorough and unrushed. My prostate (Greenlight procedure/TURP) surgery was very successful with no untoward side effects. I could not be more pleased. I always find him to be very reliable and good natured.

Misleading doc
I saw this urologist for consultation sometime in April 2022 twice. I wanted to know the details of undergoing an enlarged prostate surgery with a procedure called "Green light laser", which for, allegedly, Dr. D. Chan was an expert. I wanted to know if I needed to have this surgery, since by the previous & current examinations with ultra sound my bladder retained only 1/3 of the urine. Besides, Dr. Chan assured me that my condition of Overactive Bladder wouldn't get worse. So, I went for surgery on May 18, 2022. The post-surgery care in the so-called "Recovery Room" of the hospital in New Hyde Park was terrible. They tell you in advance that they cannot keep you over night in the Urology Pavilion (I believe, due to the dirty deals between Northwell & insurance co's). Too many patients in a very large room. I regret doing it. Bath visits during the night continued the same & the sudden urge to urinate got worse. At the end, the hospital got $50K, the doc got $17K for one hr surgery.

Dr. Chan is an excellent urologist. He saw me through the process of getting green light laser surgery on my prostate with patience and an excellent bed-side manor. He answers all questions and even followed up on the phone the day after the surgery and always calls back when I had follow up questions.

My husband, is a patient of Dr. Chan's, who suffered from multiple urinary tract infections each year. Dr. Chan had taken a conservative approach, which we preferred, until antibiotics would not help anymore. Dr. Chan recommended Green Light Laser surgery, which he had in August 2016. I am happy to say that my husband is doing great, no more urinary tract infections! Dr. Chan is competent, compassionate and very well trained, and has changed my husbands life! He deserves a 10 star rating!

My father had a procedure in March 2016, which the whole family was very concerned about. We went through the lengthy process of evaluating doctors/ procedure types. Our family friend (a doctor himself) had a surgery performed by doctor Chan and strongly recommended him. Doctor Chan is a high class specialist and a great person! There are not enough words to describe how pleased we are with all the aspects of having such a doctor!

Dr. Chan has a powerful combination of capabilities. On the personal side, he has great empathy and communicates clearly and patiently. On the technical side, Yale, Harvard and Hopkins trained, he is an impressive expert on these conditions and a true expert. Btw, not only does he help me, but he has treated both of my brother for prostate cancer and they both have had very successful lives that are over 7 years free of cancer. A great doctor and a great surgeon.
