Dr Gurd and his staff treat children like people and I will forever be grateful for the level of care they gave my 3yo after he fell and broke his arm.

Dr. Gurd has great communication. He always makes sure that you, a child, understands what is happening; he’s very charismatic. When I was 14, Dr. Gurd performed a lumbar fusion on me. I had scoliosis, with a curve over 70 degrees. The recovery went well and for two years, I felt healthy. However, at 16 I began experiencing severe pain in my lower spine. I couldn’t attend school or perform daily functions like getting dressed. After months of x-rays, experimental treatments, and MRI’s, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc. My doctors told me that this was due to my first surgeon (Dr. Gurd) overcompensating. My spine was now completely straight. Since then, I have had countless procedures, along with two micro-discectomies. Now I’m 26, suffering from chronic pain. I’m scheduled for a consultation with another surgeon to discuss the possibility of a second lumbar fusion to fix these issues. I can’t help but think, if we chose a different surgeon, would this have never happened?

Dr. Gurd was highly recommended to me by a friend whose daughter had the same spinal fusion my daughter had done on 11-14-19. Upon returning home, my daughter developed an epidural headache. So badly that she was becoming dehydrated and couldn’t do anything. He made sure we did not have to go through the ED and that admitting had a bed ready for her in the pediatric unit. He came in on Friday the morning after admission to see her as well as Saturday morning. He genuinely cares about his patients and families. I highly recommend Dr. Gurd.
