Dr. David Ludwig, MD

I went to see Dr.Ludwig once in the fall of 2007 after being referred by my GP for having panic attacks on airplanes. It was a difficult experience that has stuck with me all these years. I was young and knew nothing about psychiatry or counseling then. After our meeting I felt confused, angry, and belittled. It would be many years before I would see a mental health practitioner again. Much later I went on to study counseling and I understand a lot more now. I think Dr. Ludwig was genuinely trying to help. However his lack of empathy, his inability to communicate with me, and (most of all) the sense of being judged made it impossible for me to trust him. I can’t speak to how his practice has evolved over the years. I hope it has. Regardless, I know now that the best mental health care is always compassionate, trauma informed, and client centered. Unfortunately, I didn’t find those things in his office in 2007 and I very much could have used them.

Judgmental, needs everything on his terms, spends half of your session looking over your papers and not talking to you, and horrible office policies that I've never heard of anywhere else.

I wasn't in crisis when I saw Dr Ludwig but I was after seeing him. He was authoritarian and dismissive of my concerns, and he made no effort to engage with me. He made me feel afraid and small.

Overly pragmatic and a bit judgmental, particularly around drinking and drug use. Receptionist was not particularly warm but otherwise was fine.
