Excellent, Highly skilled surgeon!
I had recent robotic lung surgery performed at Karmanos Cancer institute in Detroit and Dr. Sternberg was my surgeon. We met only once in his Clarkston office prior to the surgery, but our meeting gave me complete confidence in him. He has a great team of residents who visited me in the hospital daily and he came by several times as well- especially to evaluate me for discharge. I had a follow up visit in Clarkston and he was happy to let me know I was now cancer free- the surgery was 'one and done'! I would highly recommend him.

RUN!!!! Failed our mothers multiple biopsys after convincing her to do surgery instead of radiation on a small piece of stage one lung cancer and blaming her body being the problem rather than his mistakes and miscommunication. Very rude bedside manners when he actually does show up as well. Our 66 year old mother now has her left arm amputated above the elbow because of medical negligence. Dying sounds more gentle than having your life in his care. He might be wise to consider another profession that doesnt determine someone elses quality of life or bring a premature death for that matter. STAY AWAY!

He sent my mom to DMC harper hurtzel after being at DMC in commerce Township. He said it was so he could see her more. He came to her room 3 times in the week or so she was in commerce, but then not one time did he come see her when she got to harper hurtzel in downtown detroit. She was there for 3+ weeks before they realized she was a cancer patient. Thoracic residents used her as a guinea pig for 3 weeks and then said we can't figure it out, we're gonna bring in general medicine. At that point i demanded she be moved to McClaren and be put back on her chemo but at that point insurance would not pay for any more care. Dr. Sternberg failed to ensure she was properly diagnosed, and her being categorized as having only plural effusion, the insurance said they already over paid. I was told by hospital staff that they would likely not get paid for the care already given. They marked her as "coding" that same day. She died 5 days later after the hospital put her thought immense torture. Two chest tubes. Bed ridden, swelled from a size 8 to a 24. Fentynl patches put in her without permission, she was on tpn for 4 weeks. Dr. Sternberg wouldn't let her take her chemo. She had stage 4 metastasized breast cancer that had spread to her lung and liver. Dr. Sternberg never even asked for her medical records from Uof M where she was being treated for her cancer. Please, don't trust this man. My mom did, and she was tortured and then died after spending 4 straight weeks in the hospital. Sternberg shouldn't be allowed practice.

Horrible communication
This is not a review about Dr. Sternberg's skills, but rather about the horror show of communicating with his team. The day b4 surgery I called the hospital for instructions and found out my surgery was rescheduled for the next day. Dr's assistant seemed a bit baffled as she was not aware I was not informed and connected me with his nurse Sarah. This nurse blatantly lied about having called me and having left a voice mail and even threw the assistant under the bus by claiming she had been ordered to try to connect with me again. Totally lost all my trust in this team and cancelled surgery. Will see another surgeon.

Did not notify my wife of a tumor in her lung for over a year. His bedside manner is horrible and he seems to be running away from different hospitals, i.e. St. Joseph and Beaumont. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HIM. A COMPLAINT IS BEING FILED WITH THE BOARD OF LICENSING

I do not recommend this doctor. He was rude, uncaring, unprofessional and yelled at me in the hall as he escorted me out because I didn't choose surgery. I thought we were going back to the room. He did not read the CT Scan to me, the reason I was there, he just sat there and had me stand. I have seen and worked with many doctors, but never in all my years experienced such low character in a doctor.

I started my review but unfortunately I’m not allowed enough space to state my actual review of Dr Sternberg. He came highly recommended in his field , has done thousands of these surgeries so this was a no brained I thought. I will just say as long as you don’t care how you’re treated, dealt with, , and the fact that he has absolutely NO people skills, your choice. Unfortunately I’d much rather feel like a patient he cares about than just another thing in line to cut cancer out. Horrible exper

Unfortunately office staff is your gateway to the office and your first experience. My dad's appointment was "moved up" from 12/3 to 11/30 only upon arrival, after a 1 hour drive he wasn't there. When speaking with Michelle in scheduling my mom gave her solid advice, "confirm dates and times" she RUDLY said, "Thanks for telling me how to do my job, have a nice day"!
