We have had many issues while trying to navigate my 88 year old Mother's healthcare. The reception staff are EXTREMELY patient and polite and always pass our messages on quickly & thoroughly (as we get a response fast!). The MAs - Ellen and Jana - are wonderful and really consider our needs, getting back to us fast. And Dr. Kuriyama is very patient and considerate. She takes her time with Mom and refers her out when appropriate. We are grateful to t Dr. Kuriyama and her entire team! Mahalo

No idea why I continue to see Dr. Kuriyama. She literally spends the least amount of time with you as possible, is very judgemental. All the things listed by other reviewers on this site. Spot on. Great at looking things up online - googles medical conditions and is quick to refer without getting down to the problem. Likes to prescribe things but doesn't want to fix the root cause of any issues.

Dr. Kuriyama is my primary doctor and is so easy to talk with. She has a wonderful sense of humor and so does her staff. I've grown to respect this young doctor as she satisfies all my "senior" questions and health care needs.

According to my mother, Dr. Kuriyama is not a good listener. Based on what my mother says, it seems the doctor must be of the thinking that my mother is old and she's just complaining. She told my mother she didn't need to see a cardiologist and a month later my mother was told she needed a pacemaker.

Dr Kuriyama takes the time to understand me as her patient. My former PCP left a lot to desire, but Dr. K is super on it and it’s easy to get an appointment by calling her office directly or in the HPH chart thingie portal, if you are the computer type. Response by phone or results of test are quick for bloodwork, etc. history of tests and treatment are available to see online also. Always a good experience over the past 5 years as my PCP. Keep up the good work. Very professional and respectful for a younger doctor. Mahalos!

Dr. Kuriyama lacks the compassion for her job and is not knowledgeable in her profession. She has made several errors in treating me and I regret not changing physicians sooner. She does not take the time to get to know you nor figuring out your diagnosis. She is below the norm of the other wonderful doctors at Straub. You can often over hear her from her office talk badly about other patients.I will not be referring her to others. The only good part of her office is her friendly staff.

Once again I had a pleasant experience at Dr. Kuriyama's office. I called around 9.00 a.m. to make an appointment and was able to be seen before noon on the same day. She took the time to answer my questions and explained her diagnosis well. Each time I've visited her I've waited no more than ten minutes in the waiting room. I will definitely recommend her to others in need of a doctors care.

Dr. Kuriyama doesn't take time to figure out what is wrong. I went in and said "I think I have ____" and she said "it doesn't look like ____ to me", and left the room. Then, she wrote me a prescription for the exact thing she said I DIDN'T have. She didn't take any time to even try to find out what I DID have. She never seems like she wants to put the effort into investigating, and she never ever stays to explain or discuss her treatment plan. She sends a nurse in with a pre-printed handout.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Kuriyama?
Dr. Kuriyama lacks empathy and her attitude is very judgmental. Whether from lack of experience or knowledge, she refuses to treat, only will refer to others. She refers to so many specialists that the time it will take to solve a simple issue becomes daunting until you give up. She doesn't ask for any preferences regarding the referrals she is willing to make. Test results did not get input to MyHealthAdvantage even after repeated requests. Not recommended.

I went in for a physical having not done one for at least a decade. She refused and said it should be obvious if you have something down there. Worst experience and waste of money. Definitely not a people's person. I'm also not the type to quickly leave bad reviews.

She did not say hello, apologize for the long wait, ask me if I had any questions, and then when she walked out of the room to get something she never returned. A nurse came in to give me some paperwork and that was the end of the visit. This was my first visit to establish care. No thank you!
