Will not see again - 1 year experience with her

Dr. Verma is the first Psychiatrist I have worked with so I did not know what to compare her to. My first appt was in person - she was late. During that appointment I felt heard and understood and the appointment was long - approximately one hour. Every appointment thereafter has been via telehealth, less than 15 minutes speaking with her, rushed, very flippant medication changes to the point where my insurance started denying because I had three different prescribed doses of the same medication in my que at the pharmacy. She has been at least 30 minutes, sometimes up to an hour late for all of my telehealth appointments and the last appointment I was supposed to have with her she failed to actually schedule so I never received a link or confirmation and when I called the office they said it was never put in. I can't recommend her as a psychiatrist to anyone. She didn't take her position as my psychiatrist seriously and showed disinterest in me as a patient.

Doesn’t take appt time serious
I am handicapped, use a rollator. I paid $180 for car service to and from Woodstock to Dr Verma’s Poughkeepsie office. She requires that the first visit be in person. I arrived 9:40 for a 10 am appointment. Since psychiatrists usually work on a strict appointment basis, I expected to be seen at 10am. By 10:30, I had still not been called. The receptionist then informed me that Dr Verma came in late and was seeing a new patient. Since I had a service call at my home at noon, I left. A waste of time, effort and money.

Judgmental, condescending, combative
This was the absolute worst meeting with a psychiatrist I've ever had. I am in the mental health field and came to Dr. Verma knowing exactly what I needed as I had recently moved and had to switch prescribers for a long time medication. She was over an hour late, I decided to speed through everything so that I could get my medication refill (an SNRI) -- she proceeded to condescend to me about my own expertise, she was dismissive and rude, she told me I did not have anxiety because I didn't present anxious. Are you kidding me? Have you ever heard of high-functioning anxiety? 15 minutes in, she told me combatively that she did not plan to work with me any further. She mocked me when I explained to her that I still lived with chronic body tension, saying 'well tell me why your body's so tense?' and when I responded, she responded defensively and judgmentally. I cannot begin to describe how inappropriate this woman is for this field. Please use caution.

A good listener and very thorough
Telehealth
Dr. Verma has excellent bedside manner and really pays attention to the details. She is willing to work with you on your plan of treatment so that you both feel comfortable and like you are working towards concrete goals. She is kind, empathetic, up to date on new medications and treatments and does far more than just medication management.

HORRIBLE EXCUSE FOR A MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDER
Have been seeing Verma since I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 a few years ago. Never felt like my symptoms were being managed until I switched providers. Always felt judged by her, she did not listen to my concerns and did not want to switch my medication when I told her I was not feeling the affects. Our last appointment, I waited crying in the waiting room for 1.5 hours without even being seen before leaving. Staff is unfriendly and never has any appointments available when you actually need them. SAVE YOURSELF- CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE.

I'm honestly shocked by how terrible this doctor was. My husband went to the hospital for mental health, and she was recommended for follow up care. During the session, she made a number of comments that were unhelpful and dismissive regarding his care, and overall it felt as if she was belittling him for going to the hospital for care. She then decides to share with him at the end of the session that there is no guarantee that she would take him on a client, and she does an intake first to see if they'd be a good fit together. I find this incredibly deceptive and especially unhelpful for people in need of mental health support. She said she'd follow up with him either way within a week or two, and they never called him again. How can a mental health professional operate a practice this way? Provide no follow-up for people who are in real need of respectful support, but gladly take our co-pay and insurance payment. The antithesis of what a care provider should be.

Came to her thinking I had adhd. She dismissed me without even trying to do some kind of diagnosis, saying I had depression (wrong, i was diagnosed with adhd later). She suggested lexapro before even diagnosing and asked me to do MY OWN RESEARCH on it instead of explaining herself like a normal medical professional. When i asked her to explain it for me, i watched her google and read off from a list. She also did not warn me that there is interactions between lexapro and weed, despite knowing that I smoke a lot, which caused me to become suicidal. Her intervention made things worse for me.

I used Dr Verma as my Psychiatrist for about 10 months. She wasn’t always on top of everything, forgetful, and I guess my case was too much for her to handle as most of the time she basically left my treatment up to me. Maybe she’d be helpful for more basic cases than my severe case.
