My little darling
Valentine’s Day 1992, our three year old daughter woke up complaining of her throat hurting. Upon trying to stand, she collapsed. She was seen at a local emergency room and told they could not find a cause the symptoms. We were referred to a neurologist at then St John’s . We were seen by Dr. Denis Altman. After an MRI and exam Dr. Altman diagnosed our daughter with cervical transverse myelitis. The days following were spent in the ICU. Dr. Altman was always available to answer questions. Each time he saw her, he would address her as “my little darling”. Three weeks later we were transferred to Cardinal Glennon for rehab. The ability to sit and walk was a dream and our constant prayer request. Although we were in the care of the Cardinal Glennon physiatrist , Dr. Altman continued to follow our daughter’s progress. Three weeks later she was discharged with orthotics and a walker. Today she is a 36 year old mom of four and has her BSN. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Altman.

LOVE Dr. Altman. He came highly recommended by my pediatric nurse friends and I have found their advice to be sound. My daughter has seen him for almost 7 years now. The worst part of the experience is making an appointment, but it is worth the effort. Getting in right away is easy, but scheduling in advance (for a day off school, for instance) is nearly impossible.

Whoever says Dr. Altman is not great... simply wrong. He spends more time with you than any dictor have ever had appointment with. Listens, is patient, great with my son, explains things very well to me. Bedside manner is top notch! Really could not ask for a better doctor.

I have never met someone with worse bedside manner than Dr. Altman. You can tell he has an enormous ego and even though he asks you questions, he immediately cuts you off. I think all my responses got out 2-3 words then he didn't want to hear anything more I had to say. When your child is your life you expect better communication. I also comments he isn't an expert on the stuff you go to him for (after). And you get zero prior warning when talking to staff on WHY you need to come in. Stay away.
