Ignored our concerns
After I reported concern on several occasions (over the phone and in person) that patient's behavior (severe confusion, argumentative, incoherence, unresponsiveness) I was told her behavior is due to the side effects of her pain medication, and her medications need tweaking. Two days after an in-office visit with NP, at which time we were told again pain medications needs adjustment, I took patient to the ED, where we learned that they had suffered a series of 5 mini-strokes due to blood clots caused by her cancer. Patient was not suffering from side effects from Oxycodone, patient was stroking. I notified Dr. Sanders' office that we were enroute to the ED, and they never followed up with us while patient was in hospital for a week. When his office called to remind us of an upcoming appointment to discuss treatment plan, I told them that were in hospital and can not make the appointment. I also told them that we are 'firing' Dr. Sanders and explained why. He never followed up with us.

Dr. Sander’s and his office completely dropped the ball when it came to treating my father. My dad lost 2 months in being able to fight his pancreatic cancer because of the incompetence of Dr. Sander’s. His office said my dad was on the list for his biopsy and they never sent the referral to UVMMC!!! It took over three weeks to find this out and then we ended up having to take him to Dartmouth. By then we were into the Holidays and by the time we received results it was New Year’s Eve! We lost 2 full months!!! That is inexcusable!!! Calls were made in between and we were reassured we were on the list that didn’t exist because UVMMC wasn’t even doing outpatient biopsies at the time!!! Maybe Dr. Sanders just didn’t want to bother with my dad because of his age and he saw the CT scans???? That’s just my opinion, but definitely something to think about?!?!?
