Derald Seid, D.O. is the finest physician, without equivocation, that I have ever known. I met him in 1975 when he was an officer with the U.S. Public Health Service & he inspired me to pursue Healthcare as a vocation by his example that doctors could be different from the prototypical doctors people of my age grew up knowing. The ones with the pseudo-deity attitude who believed that pts were only entitled to just enough information for them to make the "right" decision. Dr. Seid is the best KIND of doctor, as well, because he interacts with his patients as individual people with different needs. But more importantly as human beings who each deserve a universal level of care, respect & dignity. I have never, ever seen him speak to anyone, patient, nurse, technician or family with even the slightest hint of condescension. He is habitually up to date with the current state of the art & science that is health in general; across varied disciplines. He is a voracious reader, because as he once told me, "Science is moving so fast now, if you stop reading, even for a moment, you'll get left in the dust with the other dinosaurs." Yes, if you are waiting for him it may seem as though he has no concern for your time. It occurred at the USPHS Hospital as well, where Derald was always the last primary care doctor to go home. Many times by 3-4 hrs. But the other doctors didn't dare make it an issue because Dr. Seid's pts were fiercely loyal & probably would have been riotous in protesting any enforced change to his process. Besides, whenever the other doctors at the hosp needed a doctor themselves, Derald was always at the top of the list. That alone should speak volumes. His pts, by the way, came from all over California & some even from other states, refusing to see someone in their new hometown after moving. All these things are because during the time you are with him & his primary focus, he will make you feel as though he has all the time in the world for you alone. He will not usher you out until all your germane questions have been answered & you are reasonably certain that you understand the state of your health & all of the available options. If THAT isn't more important to you than the arbitrary time constraints conjured by insurance companies & you're caving-in to their pressures, then Derald clearly isn't the doctor for you. And, those pts of his who DO value this approach will be glad to see you go because you are just clogging up the system without any appreciation or esteem for the very reasons WE chose him. As an aside, you should know that Dr. Seid has won numerous battles with onerous insurance companies using a variety of strategies, both basic & some unique. The essence of the story is that Dr. Seid has always been driven towards one goal: to be the physician that he would want an informed family to see; his children, his late parents & his siblings. Watching him work, I recommended him to my immediate family who stayed with him. He even saved my grandmother from a convalescent hospital, chosen by the family after a CVA, without sufficient discussion or consultation, where she was being physically abused. This even after elaborate efforts to cover-up the incidents. If you think you've found a better doctor than Derald Seid, look again, because you're definitely being fooled in some way.

Do not go to this doctor, for while he is very personable and really listens, he is trying to work beyond his means and needs to retire. I had more than 7 appointments cancelled DAY OF, sometimes less than an hour before, because he could not come in. I finally got seen and he did not perform the tests I was told he would. I had very little time to be seen before losing my insurance and despite knowing this they kept rescheduling me for nearly a month. Because all the doctors I could find were not taking new patients and my health conditions really needed to be addressed, I put up with it until they had me come in one day, then told me my appointment was not scheduled, had me wait an hour and a half and THEN told me I couldn’t be seen. They do not respect your time and make excuses for their actions; it is unprofessional.

Dr. Seid has seen this patient for a number of years. His low rating is due to his inconsistency of keeping scheduled appointments especially knowing how far this patient travels to see him. Dr. Seid was this patient's primary care physician and prior to an upcoming surgical procedure, he would not see this patient for a standard/routine pre-op appointment and sent this patient elsewhere. He is not amiable and not willing to explain important information to concerned family members (with the patient present). However, to be fair, when he IS doing well, he will spend time with the patients and explain things patiently to them (rare and far between). Unfortunately, this low rating is due to his inability to serve patients when they TRULY need them and maintain standard professionalism.
