Excellent surgeon!
My son had a hip labrum tear and ended up needing hip labrum reconstruction and Dr. Ochiai did an amazing job. From our first visit, I felt that he was the best doctor to do the job. He saw the labrum tear on the MRI when the radiologist missed it. I am so grateful to have such an outstanding doctor treat my son. I also loved the surgery center where he had his surgery.

Rude and arrogant
Was not pleased with my visit. Poor bedside manner and very dismissive regarding my concerns. I’ll never go back.

Rude
My experience was remarkably similar to that of a few other reviewers. He seemed defensive, almost annoyed, and kept interrupting and cutting me off. When I spoke as he was looking at my x-ray he even hissed 'I'm trying to read your x-ray here.' If he needs quiet time to read imaging, why not do so in a separate room beforehand? He also ordered an MRI but then never added any physician comments to it, despite some concerning findings from the radiologist who read it. Nor did his office ever contact me to schedule a follow-up appointment. Not that I would have returned at that point anyway.

Disappointed.
I saw Dr. Ochiai for hip-related issues. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with him. He didn't quite listen to my concerns, he often jumped to conclusions, and my questions were at times met with brisk and arrogant dismissals. I had the sense that he was in defense-attack mode during the meeting, at times aggressively argumentative and confrontational. I also got the sense that he will surgically do whatever he wants, whether I like it or not. On one specific procedure, another surgeon told me that it was an outdated procedure that causes significant and permanent disability to a patient. At this point I am scared to go back to his office because I am scared to wake up from anesthesia to find out that my life quality may be negatively affected, permanently. I honestly didn't feel like I had any say during the entire visit. Support staff, front desk and billing in his office are courteous and very efficient.

Excellent physician. Takes the time to listen and thoroughly explains his findings and ideas. Does not rush into surgery and looks for the best way for you to feel better. He did arthroscopic surgery to repair my gluteus medius tear and it was absolutely the best decision. Thank you, Dr. Ochiai.

Complex hip problems due to hyper-mobility. Came to Dr. Ochiai for a second specialist opinion. Provided reports, MRI and history. He is amazingly patient, kind, understanding and certain in what treatment is necessary while other docs were uncertain about the magnitude. Surgery was cancelled the day before due to COVID-19 and his office and him called to follow-up and check-in. Very thankful he is my doctor now and looking forward to getting my life back once I can have the surgery and begin the recovery/rehab process while treading lightly and cautious. :)

Dr. Ochiai was extremely thorough. He listened to my concerns and had an open dialogue about all courses of action. This appointment was for a 2nd opinion because I was completely displeased with the first doctor I had seen. I appreciate his knowledge and professionalism. The staff was extremely friendly as well.

My physical therapist recommended Dr. Ochiai after more than a year of mis-diagnoses from other doctors. Before seeing Dr. Ochiai, my quality of life had severely deteriorated from my mobility issues. He immediately diagnosed the hip conditions that other orthopedic doctors had missed on the same MRI. The surgery that he performed completely corrected two problems, and following the necessary physical therapy, my hip is back to normal. Dr. Ochiai gave me my normal life back!

Dr. Ochiai is an amazing surgeon who is caring man who wants the best for his patients. He is willing to spend as much time with you as need be. He is very honest and will explain everything fully. He is hands down the best hip surgeon out there. I went in on a Tuesday to see him and found out that I needed surgery. Because of Dr. Ochiai, and his staff, I was in the operating room on the next Monday having my labrum fixed. I am doing great and I am extremely thankful for Dr. Ochiai.

Dr. Ochiai was very professional and thorough in his evaluation of my pain. He answered all of my questions and encouraged me to weigh out pros and cons of all available options. I ended up having arthroscopic surgery on my hip about 2 1/2 years ago and feel grateful that I was able to find such an excellent orthopedic surgeon with his specialized expertise. I always felt like I was in great hands and would recommend anyone with concerns of their hip health to schedule a visit with Dr. Ochiai.
