Receptionist - Termination
I missed an annual appointment, and they terminated me. I called, panicking that I woke up and couldn't see. In my book, that is an emergency.I highly recommend Dr. Karolekas, she took great care of my parents and myself for years. I have the utmost respect for her.Life happens, and we are only human. I personally went through some very dark times and was very ill. Then my mom, my best friend, neice and nephew, passed away at very young ages.My mom had dementia, the worst thing to endure for years on end. It was just heartbreaking. The lady who answered the phone was cold, uncaring, and I was forced to tell her about something that was very medically private. It was one of the worst things to have to tell just to keep my doctor. I felt violated.Even after telling her the medical reasons, she still cared less and lacked compassion. There is no reason to treat people that way. She was cruel and enjoyed punishing me because my life took a unexpected negative turn.

Hostile policies
My visit was fine. Dr. Karalekas seemed good and professional. I had to miss a followup visit (I cancelled the appointment) and never got around to rescheduling because I considered things mostly settled and I was busy. Fast forward 8 years and I'm having some blurry vision so figure I should have it checked out. I call to make an appointment. It turns out they have terminated me as a patient and won't accept me back. We're all busy and life happens. To have a medical professional treat me this way was a little shocking. If you're a patient, be careful not to draw their ire. If you're not a patient yet, maybe start out with someone else with fewer crazy rules.

Doctor is great; receptionist needs to smile more.
Dr. Karalekas in attentive and detail-oriented to patients' needs and conditions. She knows a lot about glaucoma, so I highly recommend her if you have that condition. The only downside of the visits is that one of her receptionists is not customer-friendly.
