Dismissive of Post-RD Considerations
I consulted Dr. Shah for cataract surgery with a history of retinal detachment. Initially recommending a monofocal IOL for vision quality reasons, then switched to a Symphony EDOF IOL without discussing potential impacts on intraocular pressure or retinal stability - critical considerations for post-retinal detachment (RD) patients. When I scheduled a follow-up consultation to address these concerns, she claimed she didn't have my retinal surgeon's notes—which she never requested, despite being ready to schedule surgery - yet now they're essential to make the right choice. When questioned about appropriate IOL selection given my retinal history, she became visibly uncomfortable and abruptly ended our consultation rather than engaging with legitimate safety concerns.I feel a surgeon can only have a patient's best interests in mind when willing to thoroughly address relevant concerns and must admit when they're not qualified. Had I not discovered issues she would have operated.
