Dr. Donald Yakel Jr, MD

I was referred to Dr Yakel for intermittent chest pains. My initial impression of Dr & the staff, was professional, pleasant & thorough in testing & assessment. They receive only 3 stars because Dr told me that after the final results were in I'd return for a follow up at no additional charge. I received email confirmation that I had no issues & no further tests needed. I cancelled my follow up appt. The office called & said that Dr still wanted to see me & that he had a 'small concern' that he needed to share & that he didn't want to discuss on the phone. I rescheduled, drove 90 miles round trip, Dr Yakel was not there, a fill in resident (I think) saw me & said 'well looks like you're all good, there's no need for further testing'. I asked what was the mystery concern that Dr. Yakel needed to share. He had no idea & said that Dr. didn't note anything. I received a bill for the follow up. Dr Yakel, staff & Carle health are about the money not me. My opinion changed to negative!

I experienced back pain during middle of night and went immediately to Proctor Hospital. ER dr. diagnosed heart attack and called in Dr Yakel who arrived from home quite promptly within a very few minutes. After scoping my heart, he proceeded with surgery, replacing three blocked arteries with stents via groin insertion. I was awake during much of the operation and found his manor both friendly and informative as things progressed. He went to waiting room and visited my wife twice, both prior to surgery and then upon completion. He explained what procedures would be involved and addressed her concerns. On his second stop he advised her of surgery completion, that things looked good, and I was being moved to ICU where she would be able to see me later. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Yakel. The operation was a complete success. Also, due to my quick response to get medical help combined with this doctor's high skill , there was no heart heart damage of any consequence.
