This took me a while to even have the courage to post. But I am so glad she has retired!!! Should’ve been long ago. I had prior appointments with her and she is the reason I gave up on my own health for a bit! She is very dry and bland, very minimal explanations, disregards patient concerns. My first appointment with her was THE DAY BEFORE Thanksgiving, my next was RIGHT AFTER NEW YEARS and she had the audacity to look at me and say “well you gained a few pounds” it was TWO pounds and it was the HOLIDAYS! WE ALL GAIN WEIGHT AROUND THE HOLIDAYS! In addition we were going over medication for my condition and she told me to my face if I took the one and got pregnant I’d probably have to have an abortion because it wouldn’t be safe for a fetus, especially a male fetus. Absolutely horrible! I am so thankful I found a new endocrinologist that listens to his patients!

I went to Dr. Helfer for years, and stayed mostly for her punctuality with appointment times. But, the office staff is full of condescending, rude, nasty women. Dr. Helfer checked my thyroid on every visit, acknowledged I had nodules, and always said there was no reason to be concerned. Never a hint of a problem. This was fine, until I had a miscarriage, and follow up care for that revealed thyroid cancer. My gyno saved my life. A better endocrinologist might've saved my baby too.

Dr Helfer is an honest straight to the point doctor. She has been seeing my mother and myself for several yrs now. She takes the time to explain things that concern me about myself and more importantly, my mother. It has taken me a long time to sort through Dr's to that have a very good bedside manner about them. I wouldn't change having her for the world! Awesome Doctor! The ladies in the office are awesome too.Great Staff!! Patricia K and Sharon K

Dr. Helfer is a very cold, uncompassionate person with no personality or bedside manner. She explains her decisions very briefly and mechanically, as if she's quoting a text book. I never sense for a moment she cares about my medical condition. She spends as little amount of time with her patient as possible and makes you feel very uncomfortable to discuss concerns with her.
