Having experienced most spine doctors practices in Austin over the past twenty years as a personal injury attorney, I do not trust this guy and or his practice. Be weary

Dr Pena and his nurse Sherry are two of the most wonderful people in the world. They care about you, the expertise they show and their knowledge of what they do is 100%.

Dr. Pena is an excellent back injection specialist who has treated me for 3 yrs. highly recommend.

He asks patient what exactly bothers them and considers imaging results to suggest one or more possible treatments. He listens well and answers questions in an understandable way.

My experience with Dr. Pena was terrible. He had one foot out the door during the entire appt, even standing in the doorway, allowing others to hear our conversation. He was very disinterested and unwilling to provide me with any help or pain relief. I have advanced osteoporosis, arthritis, numerous spinal fractures (other fractures, too), compressed discs in my lower back and neck, and a bone spur in my neck. I had just moved to Texas and needed to get established with a specialist before my condition worsened and an emergency happened. I am extremely disappointed in this doctor. I had to drive an hour to see him. What a disappointment! I would give Dr. Pena zero stars because he doesn't even deserve one star, but the software doesn't allow for that. So, I was forced to select one star.

Initial visit was very thorough. Dr. Pena went through his plan of action. He listened intently to our concerns.i was offered a very quick appointment to get an injection for my pain. I would recommend wholeheartedly!! I look forward to working with him.

I can move more freely no pain very much appreciated hopefully no more shots if necessary I trust Dr Pena. THANK YOU!

I've had chronic back pain, and Dr. Pena assured me he was a 'back detective' and would find out what was causing the problem. After trying one treatment, his nurse called and said, 'Dr. Pena said there's nothing he can do. And surgery won't help.' I asked if he could please call me to recommend next steps, and I was told, 'Dr. Pena doesn't call patients.' Not only did he not fix the problem, he gave up after one treatment didn't work. If you want a doctor that listens and partners with you to find the problem, Dr. Pena is not your doctor.

Dr Pena was very professional and asked a lot of questions. I felt he was very informative concerning my health.

Dr. Peña takes into consideration your goals along with health issues to arrive at a plan of action. When I asked questions he took time to explain the situation. Issues related to your back are challenging and require taking the time to look at all options. Dr Peña definitely is knowledgeable and presents options.

I explained in detail a neck injury I sustained in 2011, all of the various types of therapy I pursued since that time, my rationale for avoiding surgery initially and the reasons why I wanted to have surgery now (mid 2023). When Dr. Pena summarized what he heard it was as if he hadn’t been listening at all. In fact he said “so you are jumping right to surgery” which was obviously not the case even from what he was looking at on screen in my medical history. When I reiterated my history and desire to have surgery now so I could get back to the healthy life I lived before my injury he dismissed the disc replacement surgery, claimed they had a very poor success rate (which is absolutely false) and completely mischaracterized my injury and symptoms pointing to muscle issues as the problem at which point I had to point out the C5/C6 disc touching my spinal cord on my MRI. His solution…cortisone shots!!! What a complete waste of time with the worst “Dr” I have ever been to.

He is a great doctor.

Dr Pena clearly cares about his patients and presents options for treatment, allowing his patients to make informed decisions about the course of treatment. Definitely recommend him to other patients.

Dr. Pena always takes great care to do the right thing for me. He is compassionate and is willing to discuss the best course of treatment for my case. I appreciate his opinion and care.

Dr. Peña and Sheri were great in helping me get through a recent painful back episode. Sheri messaged me repeatedly through the patient portal and even called to let me know of an earlier appointment that was available. She also got in contact with Dr. Peña who was on a short vacation. He gave her instructions on adjusting my medication to better manage pain. All of this is very much appreciated.

Saw Dr Peña after a referral from my orthopedist. He was very thorough, answered my questions, briefed me beforehand about my procedure, and told me what to expect afterward. Excellent experience.
