Good Surgeon, bad hospital and diagnostics
After cancer treatments, I saw Dr. Rector for 8 years. He missed the lab diagnosis in the 6th and 7th year. In the 8th year, I was diagnosed with 4th stage Kidney cancer the metastasized to my lungs.

Perfect Vasectomy
Trusted my vasectomy to Dr. Rector, and it was a great experience throughout. He provided me with plenty of information during the consultation session, and answered all my questions. During the procedure we talked about jazz and travel, and walking home afterward was no problem! He did two sample inspections after the surgery to verify that it was successful, and in both cases I had results within the hour. Definitely going to recommend him to anyone who will listen!

I just had my first visit with Dr Rector, and I have to say I was a little apprehensive because of the previous reviews on this page. But my experience was exactly the opposite. I found Dr Rector to be very pleasant, professional with an excellent bedside manner I also found him to be extremely kind and compassionate. He took the time to listen to all my questions and made me feel very comfortable and at ease. I would definitely would recommend him to anyone.

This doctor shamed me for being disabled and not being able to work. He asked me how I got on Medicare at my age and dismissed me as being "taken care of". I could have filed a lawsuit but I, regretfully, did not.

I have know Dr. Rector for 11 years. He is an excellent urologist and after observing him in my capacity as Anesthetist and now as my own urologist. I could of gone to anyone in the Bay Area and work with other urologists as well. His office wait times short.

1) Lacking in bedside manner: while objectivity/dispassionate demeanor are good traits for a doctor to have, they should be balanced by a tiny amount (at least) of empathy. Dr. Rector did not display anything remotely approaching this - in fact displayed a strange robotic manner during consultations that was contradicted by later observed interaction with staff. 2) Told me my symptoms were beyond his pay grade but failed to offer further advice. Thankfully UCSF & Stanford exist.
