My spouse had what seemed to be a urinary tract infection, but following worse symptoms we went to the Porter Hospital E.R. Dr. Kniffin was on that night. After an exam and tests, he offered my spouse a choice: stay in the "Porter Inn" or go home. He didn't mention any specific diagnosis. As my spouse seemed to be feeling better, he decided to return home. Later we read the discharge papers, which listed the diagnosis as a kidney infection. All the next day he was exhausted and had almost no appetite; he was admitted to the hospital that night, and spent 4 nights there. I realize we could have been more pro-active: asked for the diagnosis, or more information to help us decide. But we are not doctors, and Dr. Kniffin is. If my spouse had been admitted the first night, it seems likely that it would have resolved sooner. Although we have no intention of taking any legal action I think it is important for Dr. Kniffin to know about this. Otherwise his care at the hospital was excellent.
