For years I was affected by Hyponatremia. No one said anything until a Doctor of totally different specialty called, worried that my sodium was so low that seizures were imminent. I also hadn't been told I had Stage 1 Kidney Disease before then (obtained old lab tests: I did). Dr. DiPerna is the opposite of all the inferior care that preceded him. He was the 1st to explain why the sodium might be resisting correction, was the most interested in fixing it, explained the finer points of how the brain affects my kidneys and my sodium and why, and seemed like he had more ideas what to try to correct it. He explained my possible prognoses going forward, and how hard it is to predict whether and when I will take a downturn. Mostly, Dr. DiPerna seems to regard me as the owner of these kidneys and thus deserving to know anything I ask about how they work. He answers any question I have, recognizes that I am a nerd and explains even the most off-beat questions as if they deserve the attention.
