I saw Dr. Roker for over a year. He managed my psychiatric medication. He was okay, but his wife was rude and obnoxious. She called my pharmacy and cussed the pharmacist out because I couldn't find someone to take me by the office to pick up a script. Neither had a lot of compassion. He was not big on confidentiality as he made comments about the previous patient to me. Contact a different doctor.

Demeaning and flippant
He disregarded my therapists notes and asked me to summarize 3 months of therapy in an hour instead. He disregarded that my doctor and therapist think I have ADHD because "I made it through college". His wife is the receptionist and is very rude both over the phone and in person...its no wonder he has such negative reviews

Condescending and uninformed
Dr. Rooker is not professional and lacks complete empathy to understand a patients circumstance. He made unprofessional snap judgements on child raising. For instance, "your younger generation just wants to drug their kids." In addition, "You know I'm a psychiatrist not a psychologist [condescending tone]." I do not recommend him for any services..maybe a pet psychologist would be more appropriate.

Prejudice , Judgement , Narcissistic
Horrible, I have never dealt with such a self-centered, and arrogant Dr, especially in the matters of my mental health, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people is honestly shocking. There was no constructive criticism just judgment to the point of belittling my existing conditions. Do not recommend this Dr. I am shocked he even sustains the legal right to practice medicine.

The first visit was brutal, rude, and robotic. I asked him about my medication dose because my primary doctor questioned it, and he freaked out! Please go to someone else if possible.

I have been Dr. Rooker's patient for over a decade. I completely disagree with the negative reviews! Granted, review websites often attract particularly the unsatisfied; these seem to be from persons who went no further than one appointment or a phone call to schedule an appointment. (One even signed the review with Dr. Rooker's office manger's name.) For years I suffered from life-ruining clinical depression. Dr. Rooker has identified effective medications and contained it. With each visit, we discuss issues I am facing and review prescription performance. Nancy schedules appointments at my convenience and has always been been willing and able to help with paperwork involving insurance.

I was initially hesitant to see Dr. Rooker because of the bad online reviews, however, he was the only psychiatrist available in town, so I went. My experience with Dr. Rooker turned out to actually be one of the worst days of my life. I went in for anxiety/depression that I have been struggling with for 5-7 years and I was finally ready to seek help, and he basically told me I was being dramatic and I needed to get over myself even after I had discussed suicidal thoughts with him. He criticized my lifestyle saying I drank too much and did not get enough sleep to even be put on medicine, but I am just an average college student who does not drink any more than the next college student and I try to get as much sleep as I can. Also, I have friends who drink and are on anti-anxiety medicine, who say it is very helpful for them. He started asking me about my career choice for the future (which first of all was not his business, nor what I was there for), so I told him I wanted to go to sch

The receptionist who answers the phone is immediately very rude and sounds as if she is vaguely accusing you of something (even in her answering machine). She will ask you to send information from your old doctor but will not call you back once she's received it unless you bother her many times. The phone line goes straight to voicemail while they are apparently open. I tried to schedule an appointment for a few weeks but decided it's not worth dealing with this. New River Valley Community Services is much more pleasant and efficient to work with. There is no reason to waste your time with this place.

I was initially hesitant to set an appt with Dr Rooker due to the poor reviews I read, but I had no other options available in the area with my insurance. I am glad that I began seeing him though. I have seen many psychiatrists over the past two decades, and I believe Dr. Rooker provides excellent, compassionate, evidence-based mental health care. I always felt heard in his sessions, and he ordered testing and monitoring of my med levels that previous doctors had not bothered to do. I have since confirmed with other physicians that those tests should have been ordered by previous providers. I encourage anyone looking to address mental health issues or simply wishing to enjoy better mental and emotional health and function to give Dr. Rooker a chance.

This dr is the worst psychiatrist in town. My fiancé hadn’t even gone to them for a single appointment. My fiancé was told by his family dr to call around and see if anyone was accepting new patients. This place was by far the WORST place he called. The receptionist, which I found out later is Mr Rookers wife, was EXTREMELY rude. She called my fiancé a drug seeker after asking what medications he has been on for his psychiatrist issues. She then continued to tell him he just needs to get out more & get a job. Keep in mind this was his first time ever speaking to this woman. If the front desk receptionist is that bad I can only imagine how bad her husband Dr Rooker is. This place should not be responsible for caring for people with mental illnesses. That woman left my fiancé even more depressed and hopeless than he was before. They need to be investigated and shut down

Calling to talk to Nancy was a low point in my life, Rooker is a scam doctor and shouldn't be listed by health insurances. Their whole racket is a scam and should be shut down. Avoid this doctor and his "receptionist" at all costs.

Nancy Rooker – Oct 08, 2019
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Rooker?
I spoke to Nancy the receptionist, who I believe is the wife of Dr. Rooker, and she was incredibly rude and distasteful when I saw her in person and specifically when I spoke with her over the phone on several occasions. I needed a one page paper of my medical records faxed to my future employer (and I needed it pretty quickly) and she charged me $75. I find it absurd that I was charged that much to fax my own medical records to my employer. Originally, Nancy guaranteed to me that she would fax it before my check had been sent in. Then, when I called back to question the $75 charge for the fax she got angry, talked over me several times, and decided to not send in MY medical records to my future employer until my check had been sent in even though she already said she would regardless if she received my payment, not to mention the form was requested ASAP and my employer stated that they never had an issue like this before OR heard of a $75 charge for this specific fax. DO NOT GO THERE.

Whom ever the lady is that answers the phone; that I have spoke with the past 2 times when trying to make an appointment, have been horrific to speak with. Very rude and speaks over you when trying to talk. Not friendly at all, why anyone would want to go there is beyond me. I was so upset over the phone I cannot imagine being in their care and how they would treat you in person!!! If you didn't have major problems before going there afterwards you will!!!!

Terrible people. I read the reviews unfortunately I went anyway. His wife Nancy is the receptionist who charged me 180.00 instead of my 25.00 copay.Buyer beware they do not check your insurance before you arrive. And you will not get a refund. She actually shoved me back when I asked for the difference back. Dr. Rooker is a joke. He does not have any interest in helping people. He is the most ondescending and rude person I have ever had. The displeasure of meeting.

Did not have space in my last review to write that the secretary also manufactured information about me. The reason I was dropped for noncompliance is because she said I was supposed to call back Friday at 830. I never said I would do so and I know I never said that because I go on field days with my advisor and would not be anywhere with service that I could make a call. I am also an add/adhd patient st a psych office so being dropped for forgetting something is ridiculous. She lied to the dr.

I already left 1 review for this dr, but I guess they weren't done with me yet. I missed my last appt. because I had been in the hospital for 6 wks. with brain tumors. Nancy called me to tell me I missed appt, explained I was still in hospital. Long story short she told me she wasn't going to charge me, I was charged anyway. Tried fighting with her about it, even threatened to get Medicare involved, but still no luck. Learn from my mistakes, do not use this dr.

This man should loose his medical license and certainly should not be allowed near, let alone treat, any person suffering from mental illness. After a new patient visit after moving to VA from MD, he refused to prescribe a medication that I have been taking for over 15 years that immensely helps with my ability to function in society. My paranoia, fear, and inability to talk to people or even be in public places is getting worse because of this horrible man.

This was a disaster. I would not recommend anyone see him. I took my son to see him he had him so upset and wanted him to come for councilling once a week but would not treat his depression. He said he could possibly have adhd but would not treat that either. We spent $175 for nothing. It makes me wonder if he is even allowed to write prescriptions. Unfortunately I did not Google his name before we made the appointment.

Please do not bring a family member to this office. We were refused follow up when a family member desperately needed help. His wife is the receptionist and openly refuses to have the doctor return phone calls. Cash operation. Still have received no insurance reimbursements. This is a backwards office with uncaring people. Do not go.

This doctor and his nurse are behind the times. During my last visit the doctor referenced a document from 16 years ago to confirm my medication is the correct dosage. I have visited the office several times and began to notice the poor quality care during the last visit. The front office nurse is rude and unprofessional. They do not use updated technology. They do not have a credit card machine, nor a computer to produce a proper receipt. Strongly consider another psychiatrist for your care.
