Bad doctor
I almost died a year ago with no help from Dr. Kim. My situation was dire but instead of contacting me back, I had to keep hounding her office and the male receptionist would say they would call me back but never did. Dr. Kim wanted me to get a referral even though I told them I don’t need referrals with my insurance. After Dr Kim forced me to get the referral, she changed her mind and refused to see me. What kind of ethics does she have to treat a sick person this way.

Don’t go to Dr Kim! My 96 year old uncle had a bad infection with cellulitis so his podiatrist sent him to the ER to be admitted and receive IV antibiotics. The ER doctor consulted with Dr. Kim, who felt he could take oral antibiotics and be sent home. Before leaving, the ER scheduled an appointment with a wound care specialist the following Monday. The wound care specialist treated the wound and stressed the importance of seeing Dr. Kim for direction in how to move forward in treating the infection. I called Dr. Kim’s office and the person who answered the phone told me he would speak with the doctor and call me back. When he calls me back, he says “Dr. Kim never saw your uncle.” So I explained the story again, which was Dr. Kim was consulted over the phone and the wound care Dr is requesting he see Dr. Kim for direction on the treatment plan. He said he would call me back again. He didn’t call me back so I called back two days later and the employee repeated the same thing he said before, that my uncle never saw Dr. Kim and needs a referral. I told him I didn’t understand why Dr. Kim is demanding a referral because, for 1, my uncle’s insurance doesn’t require a referral. Secondly Dr. Kim did consult on the case and thirdly the wound care specialist is requesting he see Dr. Kim. I then informed him that I had in fact reached out to the wound care team and they already sent a referral. He said he would call me back. This was last Thursday at noon. Here we are Monday almost 4pm and Dr. Kim’s office still has not returned the call. My uncle’s infection got worse over the weekend and I immediately began calling the doctors office all morning and left voicemails today which is Monday. I also called the ER nurse and explained the situation over a voicemail. The ER nurse called me back a few hours later and who told me they were able to get a hold of Dr. Kim who now decided to say she isn’t taking any new patients. This is very unprofessional. Dr. Kim’s office told me to get a referral. It took a lot of work to get a hold of the wound care team to request the referral. Three business days later they still haven’t contacted me back to either make an appointment or at least inform me she is refusing the case. You would think an infectious disease Dr would understand the importance of urgency. The ER nurse was disappointed in her response as well as the difficulty it was to reach Dr. Kim. Fortunately he was able to get a hold of the staff of Dr. Ivanaviciene, another infectious disease doctor, who showed much more professionalism, urgency and care.
