World class physician
I had a herniated disc in in my lumbar spine. I had been trying non operative care for a year with no relief. He had x rays and an MRI done quickly and identified the area where my torn disc was pressing against a nerve. We moved to surgery quickly and it was so successfully managed. The whole experience left nothing to chance. I went home the same day and was able to recover without the use of prescription pain medicine. Like it never happened! I am 100% again

Dr. Hassenzadeh performed a laminectomy on me on September 28, 2021. The results were amazing. I can now walk 2 miles a day when I could barely walk before the surgery. He explained everything he was doing and has a nice professional manner.

Dr. Hassanzadeh is an excellent surgeon. He has operated twice on my lower spine for two different problems. Outcomes we're better than I could have imagined. With a conservative approach, Dr. Hassanzadeh listens and works with you to achieve your goals. He has a pleasant disposition and explains things so they're easily understood. I would have no problem recommending him to anyone.

I feel that Dr. Hassanzadeh did an Excellent job on my Spine, his first suggestion was Exercise and shots, I had shots in Newport News, VA and found out that they gave them to me in the Wrong area. Dr Hassanzadeh recommended that i have it done at UVA, First shot worked, but then Covic came about. no luck afterwards. he recommended Surgery 4 Screws and two Rods, I was OK with that, right before surgery he came in and we discussed additional two Screws, I felt that he was making the correct decision, and i told him to do what he needed to do. My surgery was March 9th and today is 04/06/21 and i am walking, Showering and doing most all my daily routine. when ever i have seen Dr, H or called to ask questions i have always gotten an answer, I trust Dr. H and his Staff. and would continue to see him for follow ups and anything else that i would need. I thank Dr. H and Sara as well as the whole staff for there Compassionate and Professional treatment in my case. THANK YOU !!

Two visits prior to surgery were good with Dr Hassanzadeh explaining what would be required to repair my Scoliosis (due to leg length difference from injury to knee 32 yrs ago) and provide pain relief. At no time did I feel pressured into surgery even though other doctors never offered surgery as an option. Spinal Fusion surgery of L10-pelvis was 8hrs long and performed on Jan 22nd followed by hospitalization for four days. Dr Hassanzadeh even came to visit me over the weekend just to make sure I was doing okay. Post-op appt on Feb 11th went well with X-ray to confirm screws (20+) were okay and stitches removal. Unable to BLT (bend, lift, and twist) until bones heal, but basically no pain as I had experienced prior to surgery. Can now stand and walk without pain or loosing sensation in legs. So far I am pleased and would do again! Making a T-shirt that reads “UVA SCREWED MY BACK...LITERALLY” to proudly wear!

I received surgery on my cervical spine. I am now walking a straight line without the aid of a cane. I feel 15 years younger and will be forever grateful. I am very pleased with the care afforded me.

Dr Hamid Hassanzadeh MD in Charlottesville, VA is an excellent surgeon. My spine surgery was rather complicated, but I had good results. I am now able to bear weight on my left leg, take walks and travel without the pain I used to have. Because of the surgery, I am able to have a more active life.

I see Dr. Hassanzadeh at the University of Virginia Spine Center. On June 23 I had spine surgery with 4 screws and 2 rods. It was very successful. He explained everything and did a wonderful job. I love that whenever I have a question I can call and his nurse gets back to me usually that same day or the next morning with the answer no matter how small the concern. Before the surgery I couldn't walk straight and I was so used to it all I knew was that I was in pain. After the surgery, while still in the hospital, the first time I walked my son said "Mom, I haven't seen you walk that well in years!"

He did an excellent job of telling me what he was going to do and then doing it. I was impressed that he took the trouble of reading (again) my MRI and doing more than originally planned. All told, an excellent outcome.

spoke with this physician last year. his opinion was one treatment option, to fuse my spine due to herniation. 2nd opinion stated no fusion, with out- patient surgery. one year later I have no fusion, no pain. I recommend getting a second opinion before letting this physician operate on you. always get a 2nd opinion!! Really disappointed that I did not receive adequate options at this facility .

Completely disregarded my feelings. My pain did not matter. Made no attempt of explaining everything to me. Simply said it could be a number of things. Wants to force more nonessential tests on me after I had completed all theses other tests. Was completely shocked at how this appointment went. May have been in the room for not even 5 minutes completely rushed and in a hurry. One thing I am happy about is that I dont ever have to see him again.

I saw Dr! Hassanzadeh a few months before actually having surgery! When he first saw me he wanted to do surgery then, but I had to wait about 6 months before actual surgery! I wish I hadn’t waited because my back got progressively worse over time! He had to put rods and pins in my back! Unfortunately for me I can’t take any kind of pain meds! I’m allergic to them all! I think he was shocked, but didn’t press me to take them! Dr. Hassanzadeh is a wonderful surgeon and has a great bed side manner! When I went to see him for my 3 week appointment, he asked would I do it again and I said I wish I told it sooner!

After three years of extreme lower back pain and almost total confinement to bed an acquaintance of mine suggested UVA Spine Center. I put the call off for six months because I had been told my condition was irreversible. Out of despair I finally made the call and it was the best decision I ever made. From the first call,to the first visit, to the hospital stay, and the post surgical visits it was the most positive medical experience I have ever had. Dr. Hassanzadeh has a very professional and compassionate team working with him and I could not be more pleased with the outcome. I feel like they gave me my life back. I knew what to expect every step of the was and I would recommend UVA Spine Center to anyone who is dealing with back issues.

Best decision I ever made – Dec 12, 2019
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Hassanzadeh?
Dr. Hassanzadeh performed spine reconstruction surgery on August 23, 2019. The surgery was complex and lasted 10 hours. prior to this surgery I had 5 other cervical/ lumbar/ SI joint surgeries and was told I would have chronic back pain for the rest of my life. My orthopedic surgeon referred me to Dr. Hassanzadeh and opined that he was the only spinal surgeon in the state that might be able to help me. Though this surgery was extremely complex I decided to go forward with it. From 1st visit to post-op visits I have been extremely satisfied with the Doctor and his teams care and professionalism. The surgery was a huge success, I am able to stand straight; 3 months out from surgery I am walking 4 miles a day pain free; and I am able to sleep in my bed for the 1st time in 5 years! I strongly recommend Dr. H. & his team. Absolutely outstanding, competent, caring, and extremely capable! He & his entire staff are so very nice as well. Dr had a conf call with my family pre-surg to discuss !

Dr. Hassanzadeh performed a very tricky emergency surgery on me after a fall at home. I will be able to resume normal activities, have no long term complications, and am very grateful that he stayed late after a long day to fit me in the schedule. He has also been kind, compassionate, and pleasant throughout this long, painful, stressful process of healing and recovery.
