Excellent surgeon
Dr Malone performed a MILD surgery for my lumbar stenosis in Feb 2025. I suffered for 2 years with lumbar radiculopathy and failed injections. I was pain free immediately following surgery. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Malone and his staff. His explanations and awesome staff went way beyond my expectations.

Poor Follow Up
I had ACDF on C4-6 by Dr. Malone in October of 2023. Symptoms were remedied by the surgery, but a year later, I seem to be having similar symptoms suggest C6-7 are causing neck and shoulder pain with tingling running down my forearm to my thumb and fingers. His office scheduled an X-ray (4 views), but an MRI is usually more useful. The X-ray showed nothing. Apparently, they were only interested in checking the hardware and not my symptoms. His staff noticed I was overdue for my one year follow up and also scheduled me for an EMG (nerve conductivity test) at the end of the year! They then moved my appointment time to early in the morning when the one-hour drive to San Diego is two or more hours. With my worsening symptoms and the lack of concern or caring from his staff at Scripps, I am pursuing a different neurosurgeon at a different medical facility. His surgical skills are fantastic. Too bad his staff blew me off and I get to suffer through the holidays.

Finely relief from back pain
After a year of 'there is nothing, I can do for you', from one doctor and a band aid approach for excruciating back pain from another, I meet with Dr. Malone. He evaluated my symptoms, studied the same MRI as the other two doctors and identified the problem and recommended a fix rather than temporary relief. I'm 82 years old and have seen a few doctors over the years but none have impressed me as much as Dr. Malone. He willingly takes the time to explain the procedure, the expected recovery and will answer any questions you have. His connection with you as a patient is genuine, truly a great bedside manner.

GREAT SURGEON, AS IF IT WAS NEVER PERFORMED
Dr. Hani Malone performed a minimally invasive lumbar decompression on my back at L3-L4 bilaterally and L4-L5 on the right last week December 18, 2023. The procedure went well and has relieved all my pain in both legs and my right ankle. I have not had any pain at the incision site and it is as if I was never in the operating room. Dr. Malone was amazing and I highly recommend him.

Personable, empathetic and caring
Dr Malone took his time to walk me through all options prior to surgery and then once I had decided to move forward with the surgery, he made sure to go through extensive detail on what was going to happen and what to expect. Each step of the way, he made sure all my questions were answered and genuinely seemed to care about how I was doing. Highly recommend him!

NECK INJURY FROM COMBAT RELATED INJURY
For well over 19 Years, I have been struggling with chronic pain from a neck injury caused by a Scud Missile Attack in Iraq as a United States Marine. I went through 2 separate fusions (C3/C4 and C6/C7) prior to seeing Dr Malone and for the past 5 years struggled with constant pain in my neck, shoulders, tingling/numbness in my extremities in and occipital painarea every day. Dr Malone discovered a few issues regarding my C4/C5 and C5/C6 and performed surgery on Dec 5, 2022 to address nerve impingement and spinal cord issues. Three months later, I am at only pain levels of 1 to 2 now and feel entirely different in so many positive ways. I feel a new lease on life!

What an extraordinary doctor!
I was in excruciating pain with a herniated disc and had such horrible nerve pain, I couldn't walk much less work. Dr. Malone and his team were patient, knowledgeable, and took care of me. I am grateful to Dr. Malone, his amazing bedside manner, his expertise, and all his staff. I am walking, back to work, and working on gaining strength and mobility.

a story of success
During the year preceding the surgery, I had two office visits and two on-line visits with Dr. Malone. He was very patient and thorough in explaining the images we were looking at and showing how over the course of the year, I was beginning to have slippage in four spinal discs in my neck. He explained how the surgery would stabilize the discs before the slippage became serious enough to cause problems with either the blood flow or nervous system to the brain. This gave me confidence that, although no one really wants to have major surgery, it was very important for me to do so. I feel that it was definitely the right decision because, since recovering from the surgery, I no longer have the persistent discomfort that I had been feeling in my neck.

Dr. Malone is simply THE BEST. He has operated on my back twice - two different problems two years apart. The first time I was apprehensive because it is your spine and that is scary, of course. But Dr. Malone's calm and confident manner and his endless patience and willingness to answer each and every question I had helped put me at ease. The outcome both times was superb. I went in with horrible pain and came out several hours later pain-free. The incisions were small and while I was required to "behave like an 85 year old woman" for the week after surgery, I only felt a bit stiff at the incision site. All the pain down my leg was gone after months of agony. Dr. Malone is my hero, not just because he can take away the pain, but because he helps take away the fear that goes along with something as serious as back surgery. I avoided surgery for 20 years. Then I met Dr. Malone and I knew it was finally time to trust modern medicine and the humble confidence of a brilliant youn

Immensely Talented
I had a laminectomy of C-6 to T-1 to remove a large, benign, tumor that was compressing my spinal cord, followed by a fusion. When my MRI was sent to Dr. Malone by my primary disclosing the severity of the situation, I was in Dr. Malone's office the next day. From that moment I could not have been more pleased and impressed with the quality of care I received from Dr. Malone and his team both pre- and post-op. Dr. Malone and his fellow spent a lot of time evaluating my condition and going over in detail the surgical procedure to address the problem. Although my condition was not an emergency, there was urgency to it, and my operation was scheduled a little over two weeks after my first visit with Dr. Malone. Dr. Malone is not only an exceptional surgeon, he is also great "conductor." Fourteen medical professionals were involved in my procedure and Dr. Malone was responsible for all of their efforts. He is very personable and easy to talk to. Highly recommend,

I had an ACDF, C5-C7, by Dr Malone and the procedure went very well without any complications. I was very unsure and apprehensive that this was the only option for me but after trying everything: chiropractic sessions , PT, acupuncture, massage, cortisone shots, (2x), pain relievers including opioids, the pains that I had been suffering from, on and off for 2 years, was getting worse. I was mostly in bed in the last 3 weeks before my surgery because my pains were worse when I’m up and about. I researched several surgeons and decided on Dr Malone and it was a great decision. From my initial consultation, succeeding appointments including pre-op and post-op visits, he made me feel at ease, listened and answered all my questions, explained the procedure and my options, and never made me feel rushed or pushed into making any decision. My family and friends were very impressed at my quick recovery and I am so happy that I made this decision. He is a great surgeon with a great team.

Dr. Malone performed a C1/C2 cervical fusion after an accident. Throughout the process he was very informative, freely and knowledgeably answering any questions my husband or I had. I went into the surgery with full faith and confidence in his and his team's skill. After-care was wonderful and he has excellent bedside manner. In my eye, Dr. Malone sets the bar for all surgeons. He literally saved my life that day.

Dr. Malone is kind, professional, compassionate and extremely dedicated to providing superlative care. He respects his patients, and provided me with enough information to make informed decisions about my spine health. I’m so fortunate to have found him. I consider my 4 level ACDF discectomy a success (10 weeks post surgery).

Dr. Malone was a second opinion -- and I was so happy that I went to see him! The neurosurgeon I met with prior recommended a very invasive procedure within 5 minutes of meeting me and reviewing my records. Dr. Malone, on the other hand, spent 30 minutes with me to get to know me, understand my pain, and perform and evaluation. He gave me two options, and gave his recommendation: Right lumbar decompression. Dr. Malone explained the procedure in depth, and answered my questions honestly and thoroughly. When it came time to perform my surgery, he calmed me with his bedside manner and professionalism. Dr. Malone spoke to my (very) nervous husband by phone to give him an update, and he explained the situation in detail and conveyed expectations for my recuperation at home. This procedure marked the end of two years of daily excruciating pain. I am so thankful that Dr. Malone and the talented staff at Scripps Green Hospital were there for me.
