The worst pediatrician!!
If Dr. Hartwig walks in to evaluate your child at the ER, ASK FOR ANOTHER DOCTOR!!! He is incapable of and annoyed with having to deal with scared, sick children in pain and has inexcusable bedside manners (saying GEEZ!!!! several times in my 5yo’s face bc he wouldn’t open his mouth, threatened that “we can do this 1 of 2 ways” and then flicked a tongue depressor at him when my son wouldn’t take it from his hand after he offered it to him). He also has no idea how to speak to a child!! Kept saying my child has anxiety but he never introduced himself to any of us, didn’t explain what he was going to do and/or why to my son to calm his fears/crying and then asked (the 5yo) if the pain was in his “ear canal.” Why do I have to translate for a doctor that specialized in PEDIATRICS?!! Never addressed the 3 days of fever until I asked, then just said he can go a couple more days with it or bring him back. Can’t believe this doctor is a pediatrician, esp in emergency medicine!! Horrible doctor

I took my baby to the ER because despite being on antibiotics and nebulizer, she woke up struggling to breathe. He made us feel like we were stupid for bringing her in and like we were inconveniencing him. She was diagnosed with a double ear infection 7 days prior and had been on antibiotics. He said that the pediatrician made a bad call because her ears looks fine (AFTER 7 DAYS ON ANTIBIOTICS) He basically told us that she is fine, probably just a little cold. Then, he had to come back in to tell us that she had RSV. I tried to get a question in before he rushed out of the room, but he interrupted me to say everything I need to know would be on the discharge papers. Really? People coming into the ER with a sick baby in the middle of the night don’t do it for fun! We parents have enough going on with sick children without having a doctor treat us like we’re wasting his time. WORST. DOCTOR. EVER!!

Mother of a sick baby – Dec 15, 2019

He does not have the grit it takes to be a doctor. I took my baby to the ER and after hours of vomiting bile and he told me that if I haven’t read a medical book prior, I shouldn’t be asking questions. I just wanted answers so I could treat my daughter and with every medical question he was condescending and rude. He treated me as if I were ignorant and uneducated. After telling him I wasn’t satisfied with the answers he was providing he “threatened” to have her admitted to the hospital since he “wasn’t making me happy.” In his words. I left confused that this person chose pediatrics as a profession and the hospital agreed and trusts him.

How? Why? Where do I Start?!! How is he allowed around children? He is so aggressive, rude, and dismissive to moms and children. He diagnosed my kid with anxiety and told us to go home meanwhile my child was diagnosed at another facility with a heart condition called SVT. I would not wish him the quality of care he gave me and my family. He is loud argumentative, and a bully.

I took my 5 week old baby to the ER after discovering he had a fever in the middle of the night. The entire experience at Wolfson and the care we received was exceptional! Each person we encountered, from the check in desk to the nurses, to Dr. Hartwing all took excellent care of me and my baby. They explained each step, procedure and option thoroughly, so that I was able to make thoughtful and educated decisions about my baby’s care. Dr. Hartwing’s confident, yet caring bedside manner was great

Was extremely rude and dismissive. To the point he made me cry for bringing my daughter (previous cancer kiddo) in to the ER as instructed by our family pediatrician for flu-like symptoms (She test A-positive). Then informed me I really shouldn't be crying in front of her. Highly recommend he go into a different field of medicine. He doesn't have the compassion, patience, or heart to work with kids and families that are doing their best to take care of their children.

He made my wife cry and in her words "feel like an idiot" for bringing our 10 month old to the ER even though we were following the pediatricians reccomendation. He seemed condescending and rude. I'm sure he is a nice guy.....but he needs to work on his bedside manner.

Rude, dismissive toward parents (especially moms), and downplays serious symptoms. Totally missed a life-threatening blood clot in my son's brain. Told us to "go home and take Advil" for the headache, as if we hadn't tried that for weeks!! Thankfully, we INSISTED on being admitted (he wrote "against medical advice") to the neurology floor, where the first NURSE that saw him recognized the signs of a blood clot and ordered an immediate MRI of his brain. He should not be allowed to practice med.

Worst experience! Rude and careless. My 4 yr old twins were born at 26 weeks so when they get sick I take it seriously. Brought them in for this doctor to tell me to give them honey and follow up with their doctor in 3 days that their lungs were clear. Well I take them to their doctor 3 days later and their pediatrician tells me that had I waited another day one of my them could have developed pneumonia!!!! The fever she had was due to all the phlegm that was not able to come out!
