Dr. Gerson, is a knowledgeable and thoughtful psychiatrist. He takes the time to understand all aspects of a psychiatric case and comes up with well-reasoned and evidenced-based recommendations. I highly recommend him

Dr. Gerson is very enthusiastic and academically driven, it shows in his lectures and also in his involvement with clinical fellows in training. Great teacher. Is compassionate and caring with patients focusing holistically in their care and family members. Focuses on best practices and up to date standard of care. Also, takes into consideration patient's support system and provides empathetic psychoeducation to family members and caretakers. Would highly recommend.

Took my daughter off her mood stabilizers, based upon his concern about her weight and misattributing autism features as Borderline Personality Disorder. When I tried to advocate for her, he pathologized me. Needless to say, this induced a manic episode. She resumed lithium as soon as she could see her regular pychiatrist. Patronizing, egotistical and incompetent. 0 stars. Stay away from this doctor.

Dr. Gerson was my psychiatrist while I was an inpatient at Cayuga Medical Center. Of all the psychiatrists I’ve seen, he was by far the worst. Absent for most of my stay. Condescending when talking to me about my condition. At one point, he was quoting statistics and discussing how serious my condition was : “Its important that you understand the seriousness of your situation. 9 out of 10 marriages where one person has your condition end in divorce.” I was 22. And this guy basically told me that I’d never be happily married. I’ve since had two psychiatrists challenge my original diagnosis, gotten my MBA, and secured a steady well-paying job. Haven’t been on medication for 5 years. And I’m happily married. I’m surprised he doesn’t have more prior patients speaking out against him. This man shouldn’t be practicing. But there is such a shortage of psychiatrists in Ithaca, NY. The colleges and hospital there don’t have any other options for providers.

Dr. Gerson cares far more about money than his patients. My impression is that he never fully comprehended that his duty as a psychiatrist is greater that that of a business man. His callous and unprofessional conduct is beyond any I've ever encountered in any helping professional. Beware!
