First visit.
I met with Dr Maddox today, and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of time he spent with me. He is very personable and so was his staff. I felt very confident he would make the very best decisions on my care without overprescribing.

Waste of money
Went for low back pain and sciatica. We discussed my symptoms and I was advised to get 6 physical therapy sessions ($$$) and do yoga and prescribed muscle relaxers. Advised by PT to return to Dr because my symptoms still persisted. He advised an injection in my SI joint. I went through 2 injections with no improvement. Told next step would be an ablation. No Xray or MRI was ordered to determine these diagnosis or treatments. I was very skeptical to continue. Maxed out my deductible/out of pocket $5k and at square one.I went to my primary who ordered SI joint Xray which showed no inflammation or arthritis in my SI joint!! Went to SO urgent care and within 5 min they performed a lower lumbar xray and diagnosed my L4-L5 was inflamed. Ordered an MRI and diagnosed L4-L5 annular tear and degenerative L5. I finally have a diagnosis and treatment plan based on imagery!! Received an NRI within a week and finally some relief! Get 2nd opinion!

Rating very poorly. He stretches a 30 minute diagnostic conversation to 60 minutes with conversation about himself and his non-medical philosophies. Dr. Maddux completed the review of my medical records, MRI's and x-rays while I sat there. We were done discussing my condition and treatment options in 30 minutes. He dragged on the conversation to fill a 60 minute billing by talking about Margaret Mead's book and philosophies, health care in the Netherlands, where he practice in Colorado and why he left, mountain runoff in Colorado leading to chemicals in the water. My appointment started 15 minutes late with his nurse. Dr. Maddux arrived 15 minutes after the nurse finished. He's a great conversationalist, but I don't need to be billed $578 when 30 minutes of the appointment is spent on non-medical conversation. Interestingly, when exactly 60 minutes were up, he closed his computer, stood up and left. Do not go to him unless you don't care about your medical costs.

I see Dr. Maddux for hip and low back pain. He is a personable person, easy to talk to, explains things and we come to a treatment plan together. He did do a cortisone shot in the hip that was helpful. Now to work on the low back and hope to relieve some of my pain there. I would definitely recommend him.

Dr. Maddux is a very personable and very knowledgble spine physician. He knows so much more than just “spine bones”. He talks to you in layman’s terms and uses good analogies to explain procedures and diagnosis. He’s super great. I wish all doctors were more like him. He is truly awesome. Thank you Dr. Maddux.

Dr. Maddux gave me cortisone shots for my hip problems after surgeries. He advised me early on that I probably needed a hip replacement because of the nature of the pain (I'd only had pins after a femur break.) but I held on and tried exercise instead. Now, almost a year later, I see that what he said was correct--and I'll have the surgery in August. He has always given me care and full attention and hits the right spot with the shots!!
