He does the job
He outlined the initial discomfort that I would experience after replacement surgery and it spot on. I've had 2 knee replacements and 1 hip replacement, with great results. Dr Bono manner is brief and to the point. My good results means the 'proof is in the pudding'.

Very happy with Dr Bono's work.
I have had two total knee replacements by Dr. Bono and both times I have been very happy with his work. His expertise is exceptional and the results were exemplary. He and his staff are knowledgeable, caring and attentive. I would recommend Dr Bono to anyone requiring a joint replacement.

Top Notch
Dr. Bono is the dr you want to do your hip or knee replacement period. He is right to the point type of dr. He will tell you like it is. No sugar coating. When his peers say he is the man to see then you know he is good. He is the one you want to go to if you need a hip or knee replaced as he has done hundreds of them.

I called his office for an appointment. They told me to send a CD of my X-ray and they would get back to me within 7-10 days. They did call me back in that time. The person who called said only she was calling from his office. She said I was not going to be seen by him. I asked for the reason and she said “ no reason, he won’t see you”. After sending him my CD, I think a brief reason for not seeing me, should have been provided by a professional staff member ( nurse or physician assistant) rather than by an office Secretary.

I had my first hip replaced by Dr. Bono June 2014 and my second one done October 2017 with not one regret. The staff is very professional and friendly. When I first met Dr. Bono he was all business and not too chatty, but I wasn't looking for a friend. I was looking for, and found, an incredible surgeon. I will be seeing him soon for, what i hope, will be a total knee(s) replacement, and I have all the confidence in the world that he will perform the surgery perfectly. His assistant, Tara, was wonderful as was the entire nursing staff at NEB.

My experience with Dr Bono and at New England Baptist was unprofessional and undeserved, unnecessary and preventable. I developed an internal bleed 4 days after knee replacement due to an improperly prescribed blood thinner. Dr. Bono was very slow to see me when this developed at home and the hospital was unprepared to deal with it. When seen, there was no outpatient clinic. I was left in a wheelchair for 7 hours without pain medication in the lobby of the hospital between appointments and tests. Dr. B blamed me for the hematoma, despite report from physical therapist that I had been progressing well before the bleed. When the hospital president reviewed my complaint, Dr B claimed he had consulted with my oncologist before starting the med. There was no indication of this in my chart and my oncologist said she'd not been called. The president's apology was appreciated but Dr B was not reprimanded and has never apologized for his arrogance and error.

I had surgery in July 2018. My range of motion at that time was not good. Here I am one and a half years post op in my range of motion is worse than it was preoperatively. I find out after the surgery that he didn’t perform the actual surgery himself that his assistant did. I am left disabled and unable to continue my career standing on my feet as a medical health professional. No imaging was done when I had returned three months later to his office and when I asked for imaging to find out why my flexion in my knee was so poor I was refused. After arguing with him he said I could have it which was simply an x-ray and an ultrasound of the knee, no CAT scan no MRI. I had 40 weeks of consecutive physical therapy, wore a Dynasplint for a short time, he put me in a cast to be wo on my leg at night time. To no avail eventually he gave me a CPM machine for two weeks three months after my surgery was too late did not work. I am heartbroken and disappointed and will never recommend this doctor

Dr. Bono was very competent and professional. I have never received a more positive and supportive experience from a doctor and his staff. There was little to no wait time for X-rays and a consultation, or a follow up for some pain issues which was handled immediately. I have already recommended him to friends and family. I can not say enough about the ease and confidence that was exhibited through the whole hip replacement process. Thank you!

I had my left hip replaced at NEBH with Dr. Bono. His bedside manner is a bit off-putting, but I believed his technique was good. It has now been five months since my surgery and I am unable to walk more than about 100 feet (even using a cane). I have been in pain every waking minute since the surgery. Dr. Bono initially told me my lack of improvement was not unusual and that it could a year until I was better. At my last visit (with the pain worsening), he said that the fluid around my hip and the pain at the incision likely is caused by an unrelated (and previously undiagnosed) lower back problem and he recommended that I see someone for possible spinal surgery. Of course, the problem is my hip and I fear I will never walk again. Until the surgery I was a healthy, not over-weight male who exercised regularly.

7 months ago, my mom was 80 years old when she received total hip replacement from Dr. Bono in New England Baptist hospital. She was suffering from osteoarthritis for the last 3-4 years and she could barely get up from her bed and walk. Surgery and post-op period were flawless. The results went well above our expectations as my mom is now completely pain free and her hip joint is fully functional. My mom now feels and looks much younger! She can easily climb and go down the stairs without any help or support and walk rather long distances without a limp. As she says, “Dr. Bono returned her to life”. Thank you very much, Doctor, for your great work and attitude! We are very indebted to you! Your patient Galentina Tarnavskaya and her son

Was one and a half hour late....no apology for being late. He was rushed because he had a back up of patients. He was rude and dismissive. Did not read the notes from previous doctor completely so seemed disinterested....find a different doctor!

After being kept waiting for an hour and a half, I was told that I need a hip replacement, but I’m too fat for surgery and that if I lose 20 pounds, he will do me the favor of performing my surgery. Meanwhile, I am in excruciating pain. I’m otherwise healthy and swim 4x a week. He seemed surprised when I told him I was hyper mobile even though it is clearly written in my notes (that he obviously didn’t read). Was unfamiliar with anterior and anterior lateral approaches. Ultimately, a very uncari

Dr Bono did a great job on my total knee replacement. His nurse practitioner, Tara and his outstanding office staff made the entire process bearable. They took great care of me and were kind and compassionate; going out of their way to make sure I got outstanding aftercare. I highly recommend this doctor; he is one of the best!

Solid/successful knee replacement some years ago. But the outstanding feature of annual post-op appointments is the absence of wait time. Contrast that with the Brigham's orthopedic clinic (where all its joint replacement MDs see patients): my wife recently waited nearly 3 hours!
