Not very smart.
I was having extreme hiatal hernia pain under my rib cage. He looked at me and said there's no pain that even exists in that area. After imaging and tests I have a sliding hiatal hernia that needs surgery as soon as possible. If he was the only surgeon in the area there would be no hope. He should retire and get out of the practice because he has no idea what he's doing. I'm very thankful for the surgeons that do.

Dishonest Surgeon Dr. James Alan Harris, MD
STAY AWAY FROM DR. James Alan Harris, MD. I had a Low Anterior Resection performed by Dr. Harris in April of 2020. After three weeks I was back in the hospital for the first what became about five visits to the ER for dehydration. We did a CT Scan after three weeks and found that there were failed sutures along with an anastomotic leak. Dr. Harris said there was nothing that can be done about this and that NO OTHER SURGEON ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET COULD FIX THIS! He said that if he tried to fix the sutures that they were in a very low area and if he tried to fix them I would probably have to wear an ostomy for the rest of my life. So I trusted him, I kept coming to the ER and I got no relief. I waited and waited over a six-month period and I was slowly becoming septic because of the anastomotic leak into my abdomen. Finally my Oncologist got me a 2nd opinion at NC Chapel Hill. Come to find out after I told her what Harris said, that “she was from Mars” and wanted to operate immediate

Gall bladder ruptured and Doctor Harris took care of me completely. It was a tremendous surgery and he done the very best for me and took care of me months after with the damage the gall bladder had caused. He is amazing confident, and well-mannered. I would have not wanted anyone else to help me through this but him. If I could give him a score of 10 I would. Bert Croom

Dr. Harris did an operation on my large colon to remove a cancerous section. Before the operation, he explained all the possible procedures and outcomes. I felt very confident that he would do the best he could to remove the afflicted parts, to keep me healthy. He did, and I've been recovering well, with no serious side effects. While in the hospital, he (and his associates) visited daily to check on my condition. This also gave me assurance that the right surgeon had done the job.

I found Dr. Harris to be arrogant and condescending. This attribute led to a failed feeding tube when I was undergoing radiation treatment and added significant pain and suffering to my ordeal. My feeding tube, done laproscopically, failed the same day most likely due to a leak in the ball that held it in. It should have been tested prior to insertion but was not. This resulted a trip to NHRM ER and attempts by an inexperienced resident to reinsert it, and having to have it done again.

Before and after having paraesopheagel hernia repair, I was burping non stop. I was told I was "swallowing air" with no concern at all. Dr. Harris believes that what he says is right and treated me with total disrespect. He smirked during my first visit and last. He obviously has a huge ego, which is hilarious to me. Would NEVER recommend him to anyone.

Had Bariatric surgery Nov. 2015 . I did not feel right- unable to go to bathroom, excessive pain, nausea, vomiting, & bloating. I was discharged from hospital & was back in 2 days with a bowel obstruction. I am still having problems with nausea, dizziness, falls, unable to urinate without self catheratization 5-7 times per day, choking spells, hair loss, & pain in abdomen. They can't get meds to pharmacy or call with lab results. Anne (PA) promises but never completes task poor to return calls
