Saved My Son
Back in 1983, Dr. Mays saved my son's life. We were living in Coupeville and my son, only seven months old, had what I thought was a bad cold. He was very lethargic, and at one point I had trouble waking him up. We took him up to Whidbey General and Dr. Mays quietly gave him a careful exam, noticed some swelling at the fontanel (the soft spot) of his head. She immediately diagnosed meningitis, called for an ambulance which took us to Children's Hospital in Seattle where we stayed for ten days as he got better. The doctors there said how lucky we were to have Dr. Mays serving our community. Thank goodness Dr. Mays was so alert and such a good diagnostician. I think of her every year when my son has his birthday - he's now a healthy and happy 38-year-old.
