Extremely knowledgeable and caring
When I was referred to Dr. McGivern, I was virtually incapacitated by panic attacks and other mental health issues, and she got me back on track and feeling much better. I have found her to be thoughtful, perceptive, and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend her.

The best
Telehealth
Dr. McGivern really cares about my total well being, not just my psychiatric condition. She has seen me through major changes in my adult life and is always a calming presence. She always has good advice and is not afraid to tell me how it is. I really value her expertise and I tell everyone she is the best there is in Omaha. I’ve never trusted a doctor more than I trust her.

Great doctor
Telehealth
I have been seeing Dr. McGivern for about five years now. She makes me feel like she genuinely cares about my well being. She listens to me and believes what I say, and she doesn’t only suggest pharmaceutical interventions but other treatment methods too. She is very understanding and supportive and has always seemed to remember me and the specifics of my medical history better than other psych docs I’ve seen. She also has been more successful at treating my mental illness than any other doc before her, so that I rarely have episodes that disrupt my life. I really can’t express how much I appreciate her and the care she’s provided over the years.

have been seeing her for about 10 years now. She has always been warm, personable, and caring. She is willing to see me as often as I need to, sometimes more often. She once called me out of the blue to see how I was doing with a new treatment plan. She is unafraid to admit when she is confused about something--nice to have a humble doctor. She has probably saved my life, has definitely saved the well-being of my life. I have referred her to family members, who found her to be bright, educated, and sincerely interested in their well-being. At this practice, they only allocate psychiatrists 15 minutes to see patients for typical visits, so it can seem rushed, but she gets a lot done in that time (she will see patients for much longer for initial or emergency visits). She always tells me to come in or call in between sessions if needed.

Dr. McGivern does have somewhat of a brisk personality. I can understand how people would describe her as "cold". She did, however, prescribe the medication that got me out of my situation. Now I have it again (7 years later) and I don't live in Omaha anymore. Having to find a new doctor is frustrating.

Dr. McGivern is completely uncaring, has no regard for patient convenience or preferences, and is quick to prescribe with no explanations. She talks down to patients, even when they are educated on their medications and conditions. Her office staff does not answer the phone, and it is difficult to get in contact. It's hundreds of dollars for a 5-minute appointment with her before she jumps off the phone without answering any questions. I would not recommend her to a single person.

I’ve been seeing Dr. McGivern for for 6 years after being referred by a friend. I’ve always felt heard and never rushed, which was a common experience with previous doctors. I’ve since referred multiple friends who have also referred more people to her - everyone has had positive, helpful experiences. She is direct, but caring which I greatly appreciate in doctor-patient relationship.

Dr. McGivern is very quick to size you up and push medications on you without listening to your questions and concerns. I felt worse after seeing her than I did before. Not recommended.

I would NOT recommend Dr. McGivern. My husband was a kidney donor, and she did not have a blood panel done before putting him on Depakote, which is just one step down from lithium. When he started to get sick from the medication, she didn't even talk to him personally before switching it, still no blood panel. The office then took $200 from our bank account with no notice to us before we had a chance to send payment in (it was not over 30 days).

Dr. McGivern was recommended to me. She is reasonably qualified and friendly but a bit cold. She is very quick to form opinions based on little information and suggest meds but does not do very well listening to patients or explaining her decisions. She diagnosed me with a disorder which I do not have and only found out about later through my therapist. She also accused me of being there just for "hits" of a medication after I had asked for other options to help manage my anxiety.

I was hospitalized for a short term in December.I was an existing patient of Dr. McGivern and was referred to her office for follow-up. We were running approximately 10 minutes late. She refused to see me.She then had her secretary call and leave a voicemail saying I should find a new doctor because she does not deal with persons with psychosis. Nobody appreciates being hung out to dry at their lowest point. I believe that was truly unprofessional.
