Lack of follow-up and often non responsive in a time of great need. Did not offer alternative treatments options that may have been a better solution. Hard to get a call back. Very passive in his care.

My partner lost her life under the care of Dr Comer. She had been diagnosed with polycythemia Vera and was taking hydroxyurea. After needing an emergency Splenectomy and surgery for bleeding varices it was obvious she had developed an intolerance for hydroxyurea, which is common. Though she had just major surgery and was concerned about her rising blood counts, getting a consult or call back from the Dr was virtually impossible. She was not given the option to start a second line treatment for her condition and left on hydroxyurea. She lost her life from complications related to polycythemia Vera just 4 weeks after surgery. She was young and had a life ahead of her. While we don't know what would have happened with more attentive care or a second line drug, I do know she was not given a basic level of attention as her symptoms persisted and worsened. The world lost an incredible person, perhaps needlessly.

Doctor is very organized with my health plan, is detailed, and is engages well in discussing health needs and conditions.

Dr Comer takes plenty of time to listen, explain options and provide current research and data to help one make decisions. The way he works with our primary care doc and ortho surgeon makes proceeding with joint replacements possible when PE's delayed them. His willingness to include our junior pre-med student in the original consult and how he used the teachable moment was impressive. It is easy to understand why our primary doc wanted us to have Dr. Comer as a member of our care team.
