My Experience with Dr Grove
Dr Grove performed surgery on me during the Month of January 2025. Dr Grove requested that I return for a follow up appointment and see him during the first week of February 2025. When I went online to confirm my follow up appointment with Dr Grove, I found out that someone from his office changed my after-care appointment and now would be seen by female health care provider. The next day, I called Dr Grove office and spoke with his representative (female) about my appointment being changed. Dr Grove’s office representative (female) was defensive and argumentative. His representative said it was Dr Grove policy that for my follow-up appointment, that I would be see his assistant female health care provider. His representative was dismissive and ignored my request to send a message to Dr Grove. When it's not an emergency, patients have the right to choose the gender of their health care provider. Based on my experience, I do not recommend Dr Grove.

Seamless sigmoid colectomy
Several weeks ago I had a radical sigmoid colectomy for newly found colon cancer. I had the best care I could imagine. I am a nurse and could appreciate his extraordinary care plan going in to surgery day. He even designed the hospitals plan for pre-sugery pain prevention. I woke from surgery with pain controlled. I had no complications and back on my feet right away. Highlights:-Fast to schedule, great communication-expert robotic surgery, expert pain control-doctor is easy going and very easy to talk to. An all around wonderful man, humble spirited despite great talents. I recommend Dr Grove for any general surgery needs. He is leagues above many of his peers.

Colon resection 7 years ago
Dr Grove did a great job with my resection. I had 2 weeks of complications but he got me through the ordeal. Today at age 69 I ride an elliptigo bike up to 50 miles a day. 7 years ago, before surgery, I thought I was going to die. Thanks Doc!

Great Doctor visit!
Visited Dr. Jay Grove today and had a sebaceous cyst removed. I was very nervous but under his professional care he relieved my concerns. Extremely professional, very friendly, courteous and very happy with the procedure. His nurse "Lucy" was also professional, courteous, and friendly. Thank you Dr. Grove for taking care of me!

Dr. Grove is AMAZING!
I went to Doctor Grove 3 years ago and I can not stop talking about him to my friends & family. So much so, I have referred a few of them to Doctor Grove. Recently, I found out that Doctor Grove was recognized as one of the Top Docs at Pomerado Hospital. Which I think was well deserved. From lipomas to hernias and hemorrhoids to breast cancers he has done it all. His bedside manner is calm to those with anxiety like myself. Even post operative care with him was great! I’m told people wait MONTHS to get an appointment with Doctor Grove-which I now understand why. He’s the best!!! THANK YOU DR. GROVE!

The worst
This guy is the worst. I came to him postpartum with prolapsed hemorrhoids and he made a show out of my procedure. He crammed me into a tiny room and had me lay on this awkward bed/chair that he raised about 5feet into the air and preformed a rubberband procedure for like 5 students. The room was packed and I was so uncomfortable. I have a history of sexual trauma and I requested some sort of sedation and he told me no and that sexual trauma doesn’t matter in this procedure. I had pain after the procedure and he labeled me as medication seeking. I was so embarrassed and never wanted to advocate for myself again. I ended up with an infection due to untreated pelvic organ prolapse and just had emergency surgery on Monday with UCSD.

Doctor Grove expertly repaired my inguinal hernia using a robotic, laparoscopic surgical technique. I had essentially no pain or discomfort from the surgery and healed rapidly with no complications. Doctor Grove's expertise and extensive experience was particularly important to me because of my age (82) and other issues that I'm dealing with (and which Doctor Grove very effectively addressed). He is an expert in his field and I feel blessed to have had him as my surgeon. THANK YOU, DOCTOR GROVE!!!

Dr. Grove is an exception to the rule when it comes to the finest. He too saved my life. His bedside manner is second to none. He is caring not only about your surgery but, about you personally. I will have additional surgery in July and know that in Dr Gove's hand I have nothing to worry about. What a great surgeon and man. Kudo's to his nurse Melanie!

Dr. Grove successfully removed a 12 section of my bowel. In addition to being an excellent surgeon is a fine human being. I saw him right after my surgery and he visited me 2 times a day during my short hospital stay. I recommend him highly and without reservation.

Dr. Grove's expertise allowed me at age 66 to walk into the hospital, have him guide a robot to move a third of my stomach from above my diaphragm to his rightful location, to walk out the hospital the next day with no bandages or dressings--just 5 abdominal slits super-glued back together, and no need for prescription pain meds. This surgery was nothing short of miraculous! I thought I would need to go to LA to have such a state-of-the art experience; but was able to do it at Palomar Hospital
