Arrogant, stormed out yelling, disrespectful
Clifton Park - I had seen Dr. Zonderman initially after cataract surgery several months ago, when he walked in and obviously had no idea why I was there. He ultimately gave me a few minutes. Then when I discovered extremely blurry vision in one eye, the other Clifton Park doctor said laser surgery would fix it. But at the scheduled appointment to repair the problem, Dr. Zonderman spent at least 3 minutes with me before concluding that no surgery was needed, and was enraged that I asked about this discrepancy. He kept insisting that anything the other doctor said was irrelevant, that he was the doctor in the room at that moment, and he became increasingly loud until he stormed out yelling that he refused to do the laser surgery under any circumstances. This ridiculousness was beyond anything I had ever encountered before. I paid 2 copays, and my insurance paid dearly twice , for the 2 doctors in the office to play this ridiculous game, not even mentioning the incredible wait times.

Seen for 2 years, very happy
Been in the practice for 4, the past two with Dr. Zonderman. I really like the way he explains the detail with my diagnosis and ongoing treatment plan. At the end, even offers ways to save money buying glasses and contacts. A great balance of experienced professional and human 'bedside manner' from a doctor.

Worst medical experience ever
The Dr. was too busy to perform a thorough examination and as a result failed to identify shingles in my eyes. I've suffered permanent vision loss and permanent eye problems as a result. My vision is 70% of what it was before the infection and I'm unable to read without using a 4X8 magnifying glass. I even have to use a 43 inch computer monitor set to a low resolution in order to see things clearly. On top of all that, I now have double vision in one eye as a result of the shingles infection. His manner is dismissive and uncaring.

Useless appointment, did not listen, apathetic
Did not read chart and therefore had no idea of patient history or complications. Did not listen to questions and concerns. Rushed through appointment. Absolute waste of time. Would not do indicated exam, poor communicator. Absolute worst experience at a doctors office. I will refute any charges to my medical insurance as no exam was done. Will need to schedule another appointment with a different doctor to get proper exam done. To be clear, the needed exam was neither lengthy nor complicated, he simply, without explanation, would not perform to assess for changes. Unsure why medicine was chosen profession, it certainly was not because of kind and caring nature.

Great experience
I was referred to the office following a visit to urgent care for a swollen eye which turned out to be a stye. They were able to see me within 2 hours and prescribed medication that thankfully cleared up all symptoms within 2 days. Staff was helpful and welcoming.

I was seen by Dr. Zonderman on 8-20-2020, only because my current Optometrist was unable to see me this day. I was not impressed by Dr. Zonderman's lack of a friendly, caring personality. After I explained my symptoms to him, he examined my left eye and informed me that I had Trichiasis, which is caused by ingrown eyelashes. He then told me to use a warm pack on my eye and prescribed an ointment. He never offered to use tweezers to pull the ingrown eyelash(es). I had to ask him right before the end of my appointment if he would please pull the ingrown eyelash(es) out with tweezers, just as my Optometrist had done in the past. He said he would, left the room, and returned with tweezers and proceeded to pull one or two ingrown eyelashes out. I would NEVER recommend this ophthalmologist from the Perlmutter Eye Center to anyone, and I will never return to this practice.

Dr. Zonderman diagnosed my husband with "mild conjunctivitis" & prescribed drops. After 5 days his symptoms progressively worsened (& did not align with conjunctivitis). We called back & explained this. The doctor would not see him, just prescribed different drops. 3 days later he began to lose vision and we called a different Dr. His untreated Iritis caused permanent damage. The initial misdiagnosis is understandable, but we are so disappointed to be written off when the situation was serious.

Dr Zonderman answered an emergency call on a Friday night. Set up an appointment for the following morning and explained the floaters in my eye, how they occur and thoroughly explained what causes them. I was totally released when I left and will follow up with my own Doctor. I thanked him several times for taking time out of his very busy weekend to help me. The Capital District is lucky to have such a talented Doctor. I highly recommend Dr Zonderman. Joanie Kraft
