AWFUL!
I already have enough medical anxiety as it is without a tactless doctor with poor bedside manner making me feel stupid, ignorant, uneducated, and small. His tone was sometimes flat, sometimes patronizing, never compassionate. I don't think he even shook my hand or asked about me. He did NOT explain what he was going to do during his exam, so imagine my shock when I lie down and he begins pulling my pants down. Can he check my stomach? Sure, but TELL ME FIRST! Same with the poking and prodding and touching everywhere. I have never been to a doctor who cared so little about my comfort. I tried to describe my symptoms and medical history and it was clear that he did not understand me at all, and that he had not looked at any of my medical records before the visit. Half of my time in the appt was watching him read through my physical paperwork and asking me to confirm things I already said. After I left, I cried in my car and felt absolutely dejected.

disrespectful, lacks knowledge
He thought he knew more than my previous doctor about my colonoscopy findings, but the reverse was true. He questioned my previous diagnosis on the basis of his ignorance. He said something intentionally disrespectful to me because I didn't remember all the medical terminology when I was trying to ask a question about my colonoscopy findings. He got combative at me when I said I knew about how medical research gaps are connected to profit motives. I think his arrogance limits his ability to learn medical information and keep up with developments in his field- when another doctor knows something he doesn't know, he assumes he's right, rather than trying to learn about the topic. His lack of bedside manners probably reflects a lack of respect for the patient in general. He isn't familiar with doing colonoscopy without anesthetizing the patient, which means he probably does it in a rough way. His opinion about whether my colonoscopy result is related to celiac is incorrect.

Horrendous Doctor
Went in for a simple diagnosis of IBS, came away with being made fun of, questioned on other diagnoses that were irrelevant to the visit. I was reduced to tears. Will never go back. Would NOT recommend.

I can’t judge competence, so this is based solely on my interaction as a patient. This doctor has a history of saying/doing things most would consider strange/inappropriate for a medical doctor. The degree of this strangeness would lead me to guess there may be some underlying condition making it difficult for the doctor to read social queues. If there were another gastroenterologist in the area, which there is not, I’d certainly chose that other doctor.

Dr. Potash is a helpful Dr. and makes my son feel quite comfortable, esp. since my son is a challenged adult. He has put my mind at ease in the tests he has performed and the knowledge he shares with us both. I would recommend Dr. Potash to anyone in need of a Dr. in this field.
