Refused to talk or meet with me
I attempted to voice great concerns regarding one of her doctors attitude, and poor treatment of my grand daughter. Per patient relations she refused to talk or meet with me. Filing a formal complaint with the medical board of NC. Pitiful!!

Lacks Leadership Skills
Given the importance of leadership in a NICU, I would not recommend Dr. Helderman. I hope that future leadership will prioritize not only medical expertise but also the well-being and peace of mind of both the babies and their families.

Not a Good Influence
I am deeply disappointed with my experience under Dr. Helderman’s leadership as the Medical Director of the NICU. As a family member of a newborn in critical care, I had high expectations for both the level of medical care and the emotional support offered. Unfortunately, Dr. Helderman failed to meet even the most basic standards in both areas. The communication was severely lacking. We were often left in the dark about our newborn’s condition, and when updates were given, they were vague and lacked any empathy. Dr. Helderman rarely took the time to speak with us personally and often delegated important discussions to less experienced staff, which left us feeling unheard and anxious. Moreover, I observed several instances where the NICU team appeared disorganized and understaffed, which I later learned was a direct result of poor management. Procedures were sometimes delayed, and it was clear that protocols were not consistently followed.

Totally Disappointing
I regret having to leave a negative review, but after our experience, I feel it's important to share. We had our baby admitted to the NICU, and unfortunately, Dr. Helderman was far below expectations and unhelpful. From the very beginning, the communication and ethical standards were lacking, and we were often left in the dark.

Our experience with Dr. Helderman was disappointing and concerning. As someone in such a critical leadership role, I expected a high level of professionalism, communication, and oversight, but unfortunately, these expectations were not met. There appeared to be a lack of effective coordination among the medical team, leading to inconsistencies in my baby's care plan. When we raised concerns, they were either dismissed or met with vague, unhelpful responses. A director should be a source of reassurance, but instead, we were left feeling more uncertain about the care being provided.Additionally, I felt that the director could have done more to foster a collaborative and supportive environment for both families and staff. NICU parents are already navigating an incredibly stressful experience, and leadership that prioritizes empathy and clear communication is essential. While I appreciate the complexity of managing a NICU, I hope Dr. Helderman reflects on these issues.
