Great experience
I've read all the reviews and am quite puzzled by the one star reviews. I switched to Dr. Northrup when my long time doc, Firenza, retired. He recommended her. I have found her friendly, caring. I feel she listened to me and my concerns. I've found the Clifton Park office to be less crowded. That said I never felt rushed at Albany office.

Amazing physician!
Not only is Dr. Northrop an amazing and knowledgeable physician, but her bedside manner is the best! She takes her time explaining everything and never makes you feel rushed. She is so personable and makes you feel at ease. Kind, compassionate and brilliant - definitely characteristics you want in a physician. Highly recommend!

Albany Gastroenterology Consultants Practice MAYBE
I met Dr. Northrup about 12 years ago when she performed a colonoscopy on a family member and a perforation occurred. Then, she recommended a resection by a general surgeon. Simply stated, this practice has just become too large. There are some very good advanced physicians in the Albany Gastro practice and some who just lack experience. To be fair this review is not about just Dr. Northup, but really the entire practice. The office visits are rushed. They do NOT explain any alternatives or procedure risks. They just recommend your endoscopy or colonoscopy because that is where they make their money. It is almost impossible to speak with them after your 10 or 15 minutes at the office visit. Communicate through their portal even to make an appointment. The patient account has a number and the patient is just a number.

My college-age son, who has Inflammatory Bowel Disease and mild autism, had a recent appt with his new GI physician, Dr. Northrop, following an endoscopy he had in August, which was performed by her colleague because she was supposedly unavailable. At my son's initial appt in July, for which I accompanied him, she said she would contact him after his endoscopy to discuss additional testing due to his ongoing symptoms. She never did follow up with him, did not even send a report with the procedure results for my son or myself, as I also had testing performed by her in July, did not receive my results or physician recommendations, and continue to be symptomatic. At a 12/03 appt, I expressed my concerns about this and she became extremely agitated and defensive, then blamed my son and me for not contacting the office to find out our results, though I tried. She then told me if I wanted to change physicians I should do so. After being treated this way, I certainly intend to do just that.

I would not recommend this doctor to my family. She made me feel like my stomach and intestinal issues were all in my head. After seeing a specialist who took the time to talk to me, I was finally given a diagnosis and a treatment plan. Felt like she didn't care about me at all.

When I saw Dr. Northrop several years back I had been sick for months and my primary Dr. Couldn't figure out the problem. Dr. Northrop was very attentive and thorough. Eventually, she diagnosed me with a manageable condition, which was not usually seen in someone with my 8background. I have been doing well since then (following her recommendations) and I'm forever grateful for her diligence, expertise and kindness.
