Dr. Kolavo did a fusion for me in 1991 - yes, that long ago and it was ground-breaking at the time. I did not hesitate back then to recommend him and I would not hesitate now. We viewed surgery as the last resort and exhausted all conservative treatments first.

had l5/s1 spinal fusion in 2003. have been able to do everything after surgery that i did before surgery, even resumed recreational ice hockey 14 months after. dr kolavo answered every question i had. i never left with that 'bum's rush' feeling after a visit with him.

Dr Kalavo performed 3spine surgeries locations ranging from C3 to S1 over the last 10 years. All have been flawless. Yes, he is dry and very direct. He uses surgery as last resort. He isn't necessarily warm and fuzzy but his staff is. I have always been able to reach the same team of professionals with any questions. Dr Kolavo is at the forefront and uses progressive technology. I can't say enough.

I had major back surgery on July 12th, we highly recommend Dr. Kolavo. He explains everything, answers questions, and concerns. I am feeling great. Doing therapy, going real good. Entire staff great to work with. The PA Michelle Buck also highly recommended.

Professional, responsible, and cautious regarding pursuit of surgical treatment modalities - exploring for any relief through nonsurgical options first. I'm shocked at all this negative feedback about Dr. Kolavo's personality. While I did find him to be mostly very reserved, I greatly appreciated his directness and honesty and will be forever grateful to him for all he has done for me!

My daughter saw Dr. Kolavo as her scoliosis was beginning to develop. She had some curvature & an 8 degree rib hump. He was rude and dismissive. He would not take an x-ray because he thought it was premature. He said to wait a year & see if the curve got worse. 1 year later her curves were 12 degrees & 24 degrees. Bad advice. We wasted a year "waiting" when we could have been proactively treating her with non surgical methods. He seems to care only if you have an immediate surgical need. $$$

Completely rude and unprofessional. Told me to "join a gym" and "get some exercise" to help my pain when I have had multiple spinal surgeries. Didn't even bother to do an MRI. Pathetic. Would not recommend him to anyone.

I was referred by my primary Doctor, I had an MRI done that showed L4 ruptured disc with nerve displacement, severe narrowing & L5-S1 ruptured with nerve displacement also severe narrowing, loss of function on left side extremities. He told me there was nothing wrong this is normal and that I am diabetic, I have high blood pressure, severely "Fat Obese". Well I'm not Diabetic, No high blood pressure, he misdiagnosed me, I'm now permanently disabled I don't recommend this doctor to anyone...
