Do Not Recommend
I have been a patient of Dr. Johnson-Rickert's for many years, but unfortunately I will need to find a new doctor. She rushes visits, is impatient, and pushes powerful drugs without dealing with underlying issues. She consistently attributes my symptoms to "anxiety" and weight and will refer out to specialists for individual symptoms instead of looking at issues holistically. At this point, I am afraid to see her because she does not take me seriously, and I leave feeling ashamed and hopeless. If you have any complex health or mental health issue or struggle with weight, look elsewhere.

Overall rude and unhelpful
All my appointments with her seem very rushed and she often doesn’t listen to my concerns or anything I have to say about my health or problems I believe I’m having, as well as any difficulties I believe I’m having with my journey taking testosterone. As a trans person support is very important and I don’t find it in Jessica. Although she called herself lgbtq friendly and transgender transition friendly she doesn’t listen to me about how I feel like my body is handling such hormones. She also takes every session to make a unhelpful comment on my weight and tells me to just walk more when walking is my job, and doesn’t give me useful information or help with my mental health . Having an eating disorder and losing weight by being unable to eat food without guilt is a good way to lose weight in her eyes I guess because she never asked how I lost more than 20 lbs in a month and some change. She is not trauma informed. She does not understand how to demonstrate genuine compassion, particularly for long term issues based in trauma or mental health struggles and how this connects to physical health. She can do the basics as a doctor but if you have any complexities to you as a patient, or value really solid bedside manner, I would not suggest seeing her.

She is not a kind doctor for someone who struggles with an eating disorder and living in a larger body, she pushes weight loss surgery and medication and doesn’t work collaboratively with an ED therapeutic team. She has a fake niceness that is condescending and rude. The shame and sadness I felt after seeing her was immense. If you are overweight/“obese” I would recommend avoiding her unless you are really wanting medication and surgery.
