My visit with Dr. Matta and his team was fantastic! Everyone was warm and kind. They knew exactly what my issue was and treated it very professionally. I couldn’t be more grateful to have had my hip replaced by Dr. Joel Matta! Would not have gotten it treated by anyone else!

Dr. Matta did a bilateral for me 14 years ago and after 10’s of thousands of miles on the bike I still feel great and pain free. He is truly a life saver and has helped many friends.

Researched best total hip replacement procedure - anterior; who was best in U.S. to do anterior - Dr. Joel Matta; where - Santa Monica, CA at St. Johns (until 2017 - now The Steadman Clinic, Vail, CO); result - way beyond my best expectations. Walking & climbing stairs the next day after surgery, never used a walker or cane after release from hospital, was under RV repairing hydraulic system 8 days after release from hospital, first golf shot 3 months after surgery was a hole-in-one - INCREDIBLE

His surgery permanently damaged my Lateral Cutaneous Femoral Nerve in my right thigh, leaving me with a permanent burning sensation in my right anteriolateral thigh ( Meralgia Paresthetica.) This is a common result with anterior total hip replacement because the nerve runs in various ways right near where the surgery is done. I asked Matta about this during my consultation with him He lied by telling me that this does not occur with his surgeries because he moves the incision away from the nerve

Dr. Matta replaced my hip when i was 38 years old within a couple weeks I went sailing without a problem, within 1 month i was hiking moderately and on my 6 month anniversary I was hiking Mt Rainier which is NOT an easy hike with crampons and Ice Ax, the summit day was over 14 hours long and the hip was perfect. He doesn't spend a ton of time with you but that is not what you're paying for before the replacement I would have to use Crutches a lot of times just to get around.

Dr Maths was to shorten my abnormally long leg when replacing my hip. He didn't and lengthen it like he does normally with other pts. It took 9 wks to convince him he had done it wrong. He said he could operate again but would need to wait 1 yr to be eligible for FMLA again at work. Plus his hands are very shaky. Has quite an ego on top of all this. Have another MD do your surgery.

Dr. Matta, you gave me a new life. Two years ago I broke my hip and was brought into Saint Johns Hospital. You did my surgery and I went back to work after three months. After 2 years, I have almost a full recovery and function normally in every way. Like to say thank you and grateful to you. I wish I could say thank you in person.
