I've seen him for 2 years .... 2 years too many. Look elsewhere.

I met with Dr. Martin-Joy 2 times, on the second visit he told me he is not willing to see me as a patient because I was having suicidal thoughts when my medication ran out and I was unable to contact him. What he doesn't understand is that my anger and frustration comes as a result of a chemical inbalance from not being on a steady dose of the medication. It is amazing to me that a psychiatrist can choose to not see a patient who is in need of assistance. Pretty pathetic.

Excellent psychiatrist. He really listens and is very down to earth. He clearly knows what he's doing and takes the patient's wants and needs into consideration which I feel is important. Yes, it is hard to get an appointment but the fact that he even has open access hours is pretty great. If you really need to be seen, then get there really early. It's that simple. There is a general shortage of psychiatrists so this is a larger issue. It's hard to get an appt. ANYWHERE.

While Dr. Martin-Joy is a decent physician the practice as a whole is a complete disaster. You wait months to be seen, or you can attend open access hours where you sit for (literally) hours in hopes that you get to see your provider. The front desk staff is rude and completely useless in getting you any information you might need.

I saw the doctor for an evaluation on continuing the medication for my ADHD. I normally get my meds for my primary and they require that I be evaluated from time to time by a psychiatrist to ensure that what I'm getting for medication and how I'm doing is working. He was very good, right to the point, really seem to know what he was doing around ADHD. Many psychiatrists don't have much patient experience with ADHD but he was good. Some only know what they read in the DSM and ignore the patient.

He complained of 4 or 5 phone messages in one week. I feel like if you are going to be a psychiatrist, you have to be prepared to deal with a lot of messages,He told me about patients who are suicidal, coming out of jail, new patients, seeing 6 patients and why he can't handle the calls.i don?t think he really needs to put it on me or tell me those details about other patients. it?s not my problem, and those are the kinds of issues he signed up for when he become a psychiatrist.
