Dr. McMahan’s bedside manner is less than desirable. He was not friendly. He spent about 4 minutes with me. I got the impression he didn’t want to be there. He seemed annoyed and disinterested. Also, he charges patients an office visit for getting test results!!! It’s billed under “tele visit”. They schedule a phone call to tell you your test results and bill your insurance company. Never had I had this happen before in my 38 years of seeing doctors. Disappointing visit. I will not be visiting this doctor again.

My problem was stuffy nose and coughing. I spent over 2 years with this doctor: appointments every two weeks, after a half year one per month. I was taking antibiotics almost every day. (With maybe 1 or 2 weeks break) steroids and other drugs/nasal spray all the time. 11 CT scans, surgery and nothing helps only WORST: bad side effects: horrible skin, very itchy rush all over my body, face was covered with pimples and very bad cold sores as never before, fungus in my feminine areas. So, I stopped visiting John T McMahan. The other doctor prescribed me inhaler for asthma (I am sensitive to cold so I use it during the winter). At summer time no inhalers just Chinese medicine or homeopathic. No cold food, water or ice cream and sweater in air conditioned places. I rebuild my bacterial flora, and I don't have any fungus in my body or pimples, or cold sore on my face anymore. McMahan is horrible doctor. He shouldn't be calling a doctor, but rather a CT scan money maker. Stay away from him.

Dr. McMahan is a really good doctor but admin stuff is completely unprofessional. Had a very bad experience with Darwin Heard. Called 7 times, spoke with him twice. I sent him an email right after our 1st conversation (where I was all berated for asking about an older record) summarizing what we discussed I and my contact info. 6+weeks went by with no response. Was able to speak with him a 2nd time where he claimed to not have had a conversation with me (because he didn't have it in his records). After I called him out on the bad service he said he didn't care if I wrote a review because 'Dr. McMahan knows that I'm a good person and that I'm on top of things'. In order to 'try' to end the conversation on a good note, I said 'thank you, I appreciate your time' to which he said 'Why don't you say that last part again'. Front desk staff has told me this is not the first they've heard of this behavior. Brought new meaning to administrative nightmare. Detriment to this practice.

I would suggest you avoid this doctor. He seems friendly enough however, that's the only redeeming quality. "Bill stuffing" is the term I would describe this office. I was charged for things that no other ENT has charged me for. The front desk is totally unprofessional and disorganized. Even the phones don't work right. I was willing to accept all of that except, I went for a second opinion. I spent the morning seeing a team of doctors at UofM. 4 specialists and 1 intern said (in various ways) that he was wrong and that surgery wasn't recommend, necessary, or something they would suggest. The head of the clinic literally called him a liar after looking at the same CT scan that was taken at McMahan's office and looked at by McMahan. "He said I had a sinus infection." "He lied to you." Nice guy though. Bet he has some good fishing stories.

I never felt comfortable with Dr. McMahan. If you're older you may appreciate it more, but I felt like I was being dictated to, not having any input into my care.

My experience seeing doctor McMahan resulted in multiple tests, CT scans and blood work with no conclusion or diagnosis. He looked up my symptoms on google right in front of my and focused on things unrelated to my symptoms. The staff was flustered and unreliable. I had to wait an hour after my scheduled appointment time to see the doctor. Overall terrible experience.

I just had nasal turbinate and deviated septum surgery last week, performed by Doctor McMahan. I recently became a patient of his and I am already singing this doctor praises and recommending him to all my friends, colleagues, etc. Fantastic bedside manner, great sense of humor. He definitely has made what could have been a bad experience a very good one! Absolutely one of the best doctors and experiences I have ever had with a healthcare professional.
