Dr. John has been our pediatrician for almost 2 years. It seemed that our experience was well enough until recently. It appears Dr. John and his staff have been somehow traumatized by the situation of vaccines. I asked questions in hopes of receiving guidance on a topic that is complicated and crucial to the health of our new born. His response was emotional. He seemed triggered. He spoke only and repeated continuously about how he refuses to answer questions about vaccines. He took plenty of time to argue that he doesn’t want to take time to educate parents only because it takes too much time. If consent is required to administer these medications, then why is information about what I am being asked to consent to uncomfortable to discuss with Dr. John? Dr. John’s emotional response to a question about something as decisive as vaccines is forgivable enough. He attributed my desire to understand the decision I’m making for my child to my being American. Well enough. But coming to my wife and I in the hospital with our new born to tell us that I am no longer welcome in his office only for asking questions, and even communicating that he did not see the rise out of me that he expected clearly stating his intention. All I have ever done is ask questions. When refused answers I refused consent. I was asked to acknowledge my refusal with a form that stated that someone had offered me information about vaccines. Pointing this out was interpreted as violence. Asking questions that trigger Dr. John’s emotional insults of me was interpreted as violence. I’m incredibly uncomfortable with Dr. John administering care for my children now.

Doctor Nagamine was the best pediatrician I could have asked for as a new mom. He also personally returned my phone calls and was so understanding when I called. Visits never felt rushed and was patient with me as I asked a ton of questions every time. We were so sad to leave him when we had to move back to the mainland!
