Dr. Shiau is incredibly professional and takes time to understand my concerns. He took time to schedule an emergency surgery for me personally. The results of 2 disks replacement surgery in my neck were close to 'magic' - I could not believe it was even possible. I've noticed the improvements immediately when I woke up after the surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Shiau to anyone

Don’t use him for surgery!
Because of this doctor and the surgery that he performed on my Mother the first time, she was told by two different orthopedic surgeons years later and still suffering pain that his surgery was not good and that she needs a second back surgery! If it went well the first time, she wouldn’t need to remedy his mistakes. Needless to say, very upsetting and disappointing!! It should have gone well the first time!

I have a serious urgent serious spine injury Every day I wake up I can’t make it , Dr. Shiau didn’t like my insurance or chart and got very nasty with me and yelled why are you here , ok where do you want me to operate on you ,.. I showed him the MRI and he yelled at me saying I don’t make sense He kept getting nasty so I won’t come back to his office. And Every doctor I visit they tell me don’t waist your time with him if he don’t like your insurance he’s very nasty with his patients ,and every doctor I visit they asked me why haven’t you did the surgery till now. I told them Dr Shiau got nasty and don’t want to discuss with me what’s wrong and what needs to be done and what’s the solution and his office keeps canceling my appointment and throwing me out for 15 years ,now I’m stuck taking a whole load of medication every day and every 2 weeks epidural Procedure and wait till the medicine kicks in , in order to get up off the ground and move .

Fractured Degenerative disc compressed spine – Jun 23, 2021
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Shiau?
Dr Shiau absolutely saved my life from the VA, not only did he do surgery on my spine but was very forth coming about other parts of my spine and told me they will only get worse over time! And when the other parts of my spine did in fact started to get worse he immediately saw me, ordered more tests and again performed more surgery to the other parts of my damaged spine! I would and have recommended Dr Shiau as a physician! And on top of that he has personally answered all of the emails I have sent to him over the years over concerns I’ve had about my back!

I am a medical professional who works occasionally with Dr. Shiau so my experience may be a little different. I asked him to treat my mother because I know so much about him. He performed a minimally invasive fusion with excellent results. I chose him because he truly does minimally invasive surgery. From my experience, there are surgeons that say they do but always end up with recommendations for traditional surgery. He is also honest and is truly skilled at what he does.

I saw Dr. Shiau after having had surgery by another surgeon which I think was botched. No-one was willing to even see me because I had already had surgery by someone else. Dr. Shiau not only saw me and fixed me with minimally invasive surgery but I appreciated that he was very realistic about what to expect and didn't just try to tell me that everything will be great like the first surgeon.

I went to Dr Shiau with a bad disc herniation in my lowet back causing extreme discomfort in my leg. After trying non-surgical options first with no relief, we opted for surgery. Dr Shiau sat with me and discussed every detail of the surgery so I was very comfortable with the decision. The surgery lasted only 45 minutes and I walked out of the hospital pain free.

This review is for Staten Island office at Targee street. They have absolutely no regards to their patients. You NEVER get in on time! Today, we are here 3 hours and this is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL (It's been like this for the last 2 years) I asked them specificaly what is the wait and advised them that I have another appointment 3 hours later that I cannot miss. On top of that Iam only here for paperwork which they refused to accept via fax. STAY AWAY!

I read all the reviews and I have to say that the one star is not accurate. He is a wonderful surgeon and spent time explaining what I had and what all my options were - surgical and non-surgical. He was able to do my surgery minimally invasive and I went home 45 minutes after my surgery for a herniated disc. I am now pain free.

Dr. Shiau spent quite a lot of time with me and I did not feel rushed. He offered a minimally invasive option that was completely different than the opinions I got with other surgeons. I searched for minimally invasive surgeons and even those surgeons would say it wasn't possible. I saw him in Manhattan and there was no wait at all.
