Does not treat L5 S1 nerve root compression
This is in regards to my most recent visit with Dr. Spitalieri's FNP, Dione Shy. This was a follow up visit and I was expecting to review my imaging and EMG results. However, when Dione entered the room, she just asked about my previous treatment for pain, and then bluntly said that Dr. Spitalieri doesn't treat my condition, L5S1 nerve root compression, without mentioning my imaging results at all. To say the NP had a rude tone is actually an understatement. I then brought up my imaging results and did she have them? She responded that she did, and that I can have them because she was going to shred them anyway! She stated that she'd refer me to their recommended Orthopedic surgeon. I then asked what she thought of Mayo clinic, to which she responded, 'Your insurance doesn't cover Mayo Clinic...' and then started to say 'People who cannot afford......' She was under the impression I had medicaid, which I corrected her that I didn't, but she has no right to treat anyone this way!

FIRST APPOINTMENT
I had my first appointment with Dr. Spitalieri and was greatly impressed. He was patient, compassionate and helpful. His office staff, especially Joann, was the same. Even though a surgeon, he elected not to go that direction; instead, using medication, healthy diet and patience the end would turn out well. My daughter was included in the appointment and we strongly recommend this fine doctor!!

Doctor Spitalieri was great!
I was involved in a MVA which brought on neck and back pain. I found Dr. Spitalieri very knowledgeable, and direct... I like someone telling me what they feel I need. It was surgery, but in the end I feel I am in very good hands. Thanks Doc!

A Critical Surgeon we can't be without.
The office staff is very nice and professional. Dr. Spitalieri explained my options in detail and made me feel as the decisions were all my own. I was very comfortable with talking with him and did not feel rushed at all. Also Im very great full that Dr Spitalieri offers his services to Veterans, he has my deepest respect. Im sure Dr John at times feels under appreciated. Why go to Flagstaff or Phoenix for neurosurgery when we have a highly skilled neurosurgeon right here in Prescott. Be great full and let Dr John know this please..

Great experience
Dr. Spitalieri takes his time to listen to you. It's nice to have someone who really cares exactly what you are feeling. He performed a laminectomy and I felt great the very same day and now after 7 weeks of walking several miles a day, I was released and told if anything else was needed or felt something wrong to contact them. Excellent experience with not only the doctor but the whole staff, they actually answer their phone calls!

The staff was top notch and were very helpful as well as they always returned calls or answered the phone. Dr. Spitalieri helped me to understand my problem with my cervical spine. Also gave good suggestions for next steps.

It was not about WHAT Dr Spitalieri told me, it was HOW he interacted with me. He was simply awful. I turned in the MRI disc when I arrived, then his PA did a brief interview. Dr S rushed in and with his brusque manner, I felt like I was being hit with a truck. It was obvious Dr S had pre-conceived opinions without any exam or input from me. I’m all for getting the straight truth, but there are kinder ways to approach a patient who is already in a vulnerable position. Dr S did not allow me time to compose myself and ask questions, which I have! I would have liked for Dr S to show me on imaging, on what he was basing his conclusions. Instead he rushed me out of the room and referred me to Phoenix. That referral was needed, but he could have interacted in a kinder, more compassionate way. I would NOT recommend Dr Spitalieri- so again Prescott needs a decent neurosurgeon who is a decent human being. I would give minus 5 stars if I could. The one star is for Grant and Kait (PA).

Did my first visit to AZ Neurosurgery and Spine Clinic today. Very impressed with the friendly front office and even more impressed with Dr Spitalieri. He took time to listen to what is going on and seems to be concerned with helping me. All in all this was a good experience!

Dr. Spitalieri was very accommodating especially with the Covid-19, he was able to gain me a hospital surgical room and do my surgery on Jan 29,2010. I was in a level 10 pain for over two months and nothing was helping. While I still have some pain it is not any where near the range of 10 I was experiencing. I would definitely suggest anyone needing spine surgery consider him for their surgeon. Thank you Doctor Spitalieri.

Not so good. My L-3/L-4 surgery was successful; however, my negative result was a staph infection that left me with two more surgeries and long-term pain in the area, now 3 years later.
