My mother was in the ED at UPMC Hamot. She was in atrial fibrillation with a rapid ventricular rate. She received metoprolol and her rate dropped into the 80s although she remained in a-fib. This has occurred before and she has always returned to NSR with cardizem. Dr. Miller wanted to cardiovert her. She explained about the cardizem to which Dr. Miller replied abruptly; “We don’t have cardizem here. It’s 4 o’clock in the morning. I could use the paddles and you would be out of here.”

My newborn daughter had a 101 degree fever, which I attributed to having too many layers on. When we unwrapped her, her temperature went down to 99. After another hour her temperature measured 97.5. Our pediatrician wanted bloodwork done at the Warren, PA ER. Dr. Miller wanted to do a chest xray, catheter, and spinal tap(!) despite her temperature still being down. When I started asking questions he seemed upset and when I refused the spinal he intimated I was a bad father. Sad performance.
