Wonderful surgeon!
Dr. Salava is the best! I have worked in orthopedics, he is by far the best surgeon I have ever seen. I originally had my 1st total knee replacement in April of 2022, my original surgeon sort of blew my concern off with the pain I was still having. After alot of research on my part looking for someone who could specialize in total knee revisions, Dr. Salava's name kept coming up over and over. After my initial appointment with him, I left the clinic more relieved with the approach he was going. After 6 weeks wearing a brace, I knew before I even set foot back in his I was going to knee another knee surgery. The 2nd surgery was alot easier, less bruising and better control getting around almost immediately. In 5 months, I am more grately that he did the revision. His bedside manner is impeccable, his genuinely cares for his patients, never makes them feel rushed or not heard. It breaks my heart knowing he is longer with KU, looking to follow up with him in Topeka.

I would highly recommend Dr. Salava
Dr. Salava is very compassionate. He is very clear while educating his patients about what is happening with them, what will be the best options, what they can do for self-care, and will certainly inform the patient as to when it is time for more aggressive measures.

Great Dr, strong, personable, friendly, knowledgeable, knows his trade. I’d have three surgeries on my left hip, he did the forth hasn’t been long but this time it feels solid still in some nerve pain but it appears to be my back, long term prognosis very solid hip, take care of my back, I’ll be ready to rock and roll. 71 years young.

Dr. Salava is a skilled surgeon with techniques that are state of the art, and a thoughtful physician. He is everything you would hope to find in a surgeon, an impressive educational pedigree, confident, educational, careful, commanding, and then he surprises you with patience, carefully attending to details, and a kind bedside manner. I do not impress easily, but as I talked to staff I found that I was not an exception, but the rule. I was first on the schedule that day, but I was not a "procedure #1", I was a known patient. KU is a teaching hospital and is staffed by the best of the best. Dr. Salava replaced my right hip. My recovery, mobility, and lack of restrictions (none) was exceptional, and he is the only one who will replace my left hip. One last comment. I am positive he learned a great deal as a student, but I suspect he already had the gift of healing as he entered medical school.

Dr. Salava literally saved my life when I had an infected replacement hip. My wife and I are eternally grateful to this young man. He removed the infected hip (which he had not placed initially) then kept me in treatment at a recovery facility until they were able to put in a new hip. He is so smart. Tops in his field in the metro area of Kansas City.

How Cabell Huntington Hospital could let him go is amazing to me. I know Cabell Htgn is a teaching hospital but when you have a surgeon with the capabilities of Dr. Salava, why not try and keep him? Business as usual for Cabell!

He is an amazing surgeon! Cabell Huntington Hospital's best! He did my 3rd hip replacement and there was minimal pain. I was amazed! He takes time to talk with you. His assistant, Mary McCallister always follows up and is very nice as well.

Dr. Salava spent over an hour with me answering questions on one visit. Kind and caring, genuine. Incredible physician. I had an anterior hip replacement in June 2015. I drove after a week. Painfree since. If you have any doubts or fears about this procedure, please speak with Dr. Salava. It will be one of the smartest decisions you will ever make.

He is very helpful and seems very concerned for his patients. He asks questions and listens intently to patient needs and inquiries. He is a very dedicated surgeon and works intently to meet the needs of all in his care. I have had two hips replaced by Dr. Salava and would not consider any one else since he has shown such concern and care to ease the pain I have suffered before the surgeries.
