Surprised he’s still licensed
Worst experience of my life! Doctors are supposed to do no harm, Wassef considers himself above the law. He refuses to listen to his patients, instead he pre diagnoses and determines treatment plan before you even have your first sit down. He not only provided zero help but derailed the progress I made.

Five Star Review
Dr. Wassef has been treating me since 2017. I have recommended him to several people and will continue to do so. He is very good at what he does and I hope to continue with him for as long as I need a physchiatrist.

Wasted my Time
Doesn't listen to anything you're saying. Never once looked at my in the eye, and got all his answers from what the majority needed, NOT ME. Avoid, he's useless.

Have Been a Patient Since 1990's
Dr. Wassef is very knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful and caring. He listens to you. He has helped me so much with many different issues. During our first appointment, I cried all the way through - I was that miserable! Now, I am happy, well-adjusted and living a wonderful life all because of the help I received and accepted from Dr. W. Looking back, it has been an amazing nearly 30 years. I wanted to help others, but I could not have done all the things I did, without a good Doctor, like him, in my corner. I had too many challenges. Dr. W found the right medication, but he did not over prescribe as some doctors do. He recommended the right people to help me. He helped me more than I can express. Thank you Dr. W!

Avoid like the plague
During a dark time of intense grief I ended up in a psych ward & he was the Dr. assigned to me. Under his "care" I only felt worse emotionally & physically. He didn't address my depression or grief at all but did accuse me of being an addict bc I take anxiety meds (he is against the use of them apparently). He replaced my anxiety med w/ a blood pressure med which he claimed worked the same for anxiety. It did not & he was not at all concerned when my BP dropped to 70/40. I could barely sit up w/o blacking out. Most docs are open to input from patients, but he basically demanded blind obedience and seemed personally offended by any criticism or questioning of his treatment plan. It felt like he was trying to punish me for taking anxiety meds & his attitude ranged from condescending at best, to almost cruel depending on how much I dared to disagree w/ him. Multiple times a day I saw patients leave his office in tears. Depressed people already feel bad enough w/o this guy making it worse!

I have been going to Dr Wassif for over 8 years. His diagnosis and treatment of me has made a huge difference in my life. I have felt better than I have felt for the past 30 years. Even my family members say it has made such a difference, they encourage me to keep seeing him. I would recommend him to my friend.

I have been seeing Dr Wassef for about five years. His no nonsense approach has been good for me. He doesn't want you to tell him what you need. He wants to evaluate, diagnose, and discuss care with you. The longer you see him the better the communication becomes. He doesn't hold your hand. He expects you to do the hard work. In my opinion just how it should be.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Wassef for approx. 25 yrs. At first I thought he was a good doctor but a little rigid. I decided to stick with him as he was highly recommended by 2 friends. In the months to follow Dr. Wassef proved without a doubt his competency and concern for my well being. Over the years he has become a friend as well as medical provider. I only see him now for managing the medication he prescribes. This relationship has helped me tremendously in more ways than one.

I was referred to Dr. Wassef by my primary care physician to be tested for a more appropriate antidepressant for my situation. Even though we had a zoom meeting, with glitches on my end, I immediately connected with him. In order for him to access me, I had to answer initial questioning with yes, no, or multiple choice. If I started trying to explain, he brought me back on track. I didn’t take it as being rude, like some of the other reviews I’ve read here. After the initial testing he gave me his results, which were spot on. Before he prescribed my medication, I had to have blood work & urine testing done. He called to let me know which medication he thought would be the best. I think he is very knowledgeable, considerate, and wants his patients to be upfront and honest so that he can help them with the right medicine or combination. His office staff is very, very nice and helpful. I feel very comfortable knowing that they will help me any way they can.

I was a patient of Dr. Wassef for close to 3 and half years. I didn’t have a choice on Psychatrists because of my insurance. He is made me sicker than I was mentally and physically from his medications that he prescribed to me. My blood work showed up issues with the medication combination that he prescribed and he told me that I had to keep taking medications as prescribed and to go to my primary care doctor to fix the issue. He refused to listen to any problem or mental issues I was having, his answer was talk to your counselor not him. Same questions asked at every visit off list on his clipboard and ignore anything else that I tried to ask. I am no longer his patient and stopped taking the cocktail of medications amazingly I no longer have fainting spell or my bloodwork isn’t messed up. I would NOT recommend him to anyone the man is horrible to his patients and he thinks he is smarter than other doctors and his diagnosis is the only one that matters.

Dr. Wassef helped me to get my normal life back. I was experiencing changes that I just could not explain & was extremely depressed. I was referred to Dr. Wassef & at first we butted heads a little. He was a bit gruff and wanted me to listen to him & I wanted him to listen to ME. Once I slowed down & listened & let him worked through his protocol he needed to use to determine my issues everything was great. We have built a good relationship & I'm very grateful for his help. His office staff is very friendly. To be honest I have never met anyone in person (Due to Covid) we have skype or phone appointments which work out great.

I have been seeing Dr. Waseff for 8 years. I moved back from Houston in 2011 and was worried that I could not find a good doctor. I was very blessed to find him. I started seeing him when his office was in Longview in the Austin Bank Building....from the very beginning he assessed me and I was put on meds. I have never not once had a problem with the meds . him or his office staff. They have gone above and beyond for me from the beginning. The office staff is so kind and easy to work with. I couldn't imagine anyone being rude in that office especially him. There are always two sides to every story......I have always been treated with respect...He knows what he is doing ...he has years of experience that shows in my book. I feel very comfortable when I am at my appointment. If you want an expert in the field of Psychiatry he is the one to see.....Don't go by the negative reviews that are about him....I am very happy with the whole package.

Let me say to start out with I am a senior, who has seen many doctors throughout my lifetime, all of which would prescribe various kinds of Antidepressent medications, plus zannex and sleeping pills. so much so I was a walking zombie. When I went to Dr. Wassef, I was a total mess, and had been for many years. I could not sleep but in small spurts, and then it was not restful, I was haunted by dreams from childhood trauma in every sense of the word. I could not understand why I could not remained focused. At first meeting he came accross as a little stern, but after my initial consultation and drug test, the relationship between Doctor-patient became much easier, and grew into mutual respect. He helped me to understand that I suffered from PTSD and that I was Bi-polar 1 and what that entails, I know that I can ask him any question and open up to him about any concern and he will evaluate, then provide the best advice for my situation. He is a terrific Doctor.

I was treated by Dr. Wassef during my stay at the ETMC Behavioral Center. During my stay, he threatened to commit me and send me before a judge to spite me when I requested discharge, misdiagnosed me, ignored me during our appointments when I was speaking to him, and even put me in danger by denying and ignoring the very serious side effects I experienced while taking the medication he ordered. Should you ever find yourself a patient of his I would strongly advise that you seek another doctor.

Dr. Wassef literally changed my life. I had struggled with depression and anxiety for years and had been seeing primary physicians for years and trying different meds with no real results. I saw temporary results, but was in denial about my diagnosis and didn't fully trust them because they all wanted me on meds. Dr. Wassef explained things to me and made me come to terms with my situation and referred me to a therapist who was also wonderful. highly reccommend him.

He just shrugged & said he didn't know anything about the symptoms I was describing and said that it wasn't possible for me to be experiencing them and that since he didn't know anything about it he couldn't give me any answers & wasn't going to delve deeper to learn more about them. He asked me questions but wouldn't wait for my response and would talk over me every time I would ask him a question for clarity. Courtesy and an open mind go a long way, unfortunately he was lacking both.

The office staff seemed very friendly when you speak to them on the phone, especially Kelly she seemed to actually care about me and my well being. But as for Jean at the front she is rude and very hurtful my daughter missed an appointment and she when I called she told me she would be dropped from services, she seemed to almost enjoy telling me this. She stated my daughter had been warned in the past and that is it, office policy no exceptions. My daughter has seen Dr Wassef for years.
